GREAT LABOR DAY CROWD Witnesses Some Fine Racing at Kenilworth Park. Fredcricktown Triumphs Over Catalan and Just David in Detroit Handicap, the Big Feature. "WINDSOR, Ont. Sept 1. The fifth and feature race on the program, the Detroit Handicap, with a net value of ,S00 to the winner, fell to H. S. Harts Fredericktown before a crowd of 15,000 people the largest crowd that has been to the races at this track since Man o War beat Sir Barton. E. H. Garrisons Catalan was installed the favorite but second was the best he could get. 3. N. Holmans Just David was third and Best Pal, Royal Oak and Horologe finished in the order. The weather was cloudy and the track fast. The start was a good one and Just David went to the front going around the first turn. Buxton sent Catalan right after him with Fredcricktown laying in third position. Royal Oak was leading Best Pal and Horologe by two and a half lengths going up the backstretch. Buxton sent Catalan to the front and Wallace, on Just David, steadied his mount as did Burns on Fredericktown. Best Pal moved away from Royal Oak and Horologe and it was apparent early that the last two would not improve their position as they were dropping back early in the race. Catalan reached the stretch two lengths in front and looked a certain winner when the heavy impost started to tell and he was an easy victim to the belated rush of the winner. Just David fell back beaten at the eighth post and was best of the others. Tlie opening race, a five and a half furlong dash for juveniles went to Clarence Buxtons good colt. Slice, with J. E. Maddens Damon Runyon three and a half lengths in front of J. H. Shreves John F. Kleaver. Off to a good start Damon Runyon was the first to show out of the bunch, with Cleg forcing the pace and Prince Hampton running third with the rest of the field pretty well bunched. Cleg and Prince Hampton tired after going a half mile and it was there that Slice and John F. Kleaver, which had been trailing, made their move. Slice caught Damon Runyon in the stretch and beat him a half length after a thrilling stretch duel. John F. Kleaver came on to be third. The second race on the program, a seven-eighths sprint for Canadian-breds, was won by Chief Sponsor, carrying the silks of G. W. Atkinson with the Kenton Stables Thorny Way second and Lady Heart third a nose in front of Mrs. Alexandras El Jes-mar. Off in good alignment Lady Heart went right out in front with Chief Sponsor the favorite in second position. Fluffy Ruffles was in close attendance. They came into the stretch pretty well bunched and it was a good contest from there to the judges stand with Chief Sponsor going away fast and Thorny Way, which closed fast for second, with Lady Heart and El Jesmar fighting it out for the show. D. Mergler used bad judgment on El Jesmar trying to get through a small opening and he had to take him up when he was running fast. Fluffy Ruffles quit to a walk. The third offering, a five and a half furlong dash for cheap sprinters, brought out a field of ten of which Sea-Wolf was favorite. Tho winner turned up in Metal, a long shot, carrying the colors of J. O. Burttschell with H. Herrons Kinsman second and Sea-Wolf third. Off in good order Kinsman went right to the front with Sextant and Sea-Wolf in close pursuit. Metson the second choice was leading the rest of the field and they ran in order named to the stretch where McCoy sent Metal to the front and it was nip and tuck finish to the end with Metal geting the verdict by a head with Kinsman a length and a half in front of the favorite, Sea-Wolf. Metson was fourth and Sextant led the others of the field. It is almost impossible to distinguish the colors on account of the dusty condition of the track. The fourth race and secondary feature, namely the Dufferin Handicap, carrying a net value of ,100 to the winner, was won by Walter Laws Bigheart, with F. Musantes Will Land second and G. W. Atkinsons Polly Wale third, two and a half lengths ahead of Procyon. After a little delay at the barrier, due to the actions of Purity, they got off in good order. Wallace sent Bigheart right to the front with Will Land and Deputy forcing the pace. Polly Wale was leading the others, who were pretty well strung out. They ran this way to the stretch turn, where Deputy quit and Polly Wale and Will Land went after the leader, but Wallace kept Bigheart going at top speed and just lasted to win. Will Land, well ridden, was lucky to get the place, as Polly Wale was going strong and was an easy third. Procyon ran an improved race over his previous start, while Col. Labold showed a bad reversal of his last race when he beat the cream of the sprinting division in 1:25 and today he was beat away off in 1:26. Mrs. A. E. Alexandra, represented by El Jesmar fn the second race at Kenilworth claimed Chief Sponsor for ,800.
