Mountjoys Be Good earned a head verdict over Bucado in the ,000 Inaugural Handicap, fifth and feature attraction of the Ohio State Jockey Clubs opening day card at Maple Heights Park this afternoon. Grace Mayers was a distant but easy third. The winner was restrained behind the pace, of Jewell V. D. and Goldfield until after rounding the far turn, then moved up with a rush that carried her into the lead. Rounding the stretch turn Bucado challenged and the pair fought it out desperately to the end but Be Good proved the gamer. Grace Mayers easily passed some tired horses to get third without opposition. Goldfield and Jewell V. D. both quit to a walk after cutting out a fast early pace. Autumn like weather conditions prevailed. A heavily clouded sky failed to injure the attendance, however, and over six thousand witnessed the races, which were contested over a slow but drying out track. Coming from far back in the last quarter Colossus scored a handy victory over Met-son and Albsrt L. in the fifth race, a dash of seven-eighths. Metson outlasted the tiring pacemaker, Albert L., for second place. To the veteran Joe Dominick fell the honor of riding the first winner of the meeting. He landed Mandy home first by a comfortable margin, after leading throughout. After racing lapped to the stretch Blue Goose proved the gamer than Benita and secured second place. Receiver closed a wide gap after beginning very slowly. Yerrat on Blackolia indulged Superanna with the lead to the stretch in the second race. When called upon Blackolia drew away to a cantering victory and Superanna was as much the best of the others. A disqualification followed the running of the third race. Knot Grass, the early leader, carried Cock o the Roost to the extreme outside during the stretch run and was beaten by a head by the latter after a furious drive. The stewards, however, promptly disqualified Knot Grass out of second money and moved up Gordon Shaw, which was a bang-up third. Jockey W. Smith, who rode Knot Grass, was set down for the remainder of the meeting. Racing in the colors of Ed Moore, Hillman C. came from a long way back in the last half mile to beat Huckleberry Finn after a stirring stretch struggle in the seventh number. J. A. Parsons made it a double when Pat Hampson annexed the concluding dash in a drive from Mad Nell.
