LA WRENCE REALIZATION DAY AT BELMONT PARK-BIG CROWD AT AURORAS OPENING AWAY TO GOOD START Special Trains From Chicago Crowded to Capacity. Inaugural Feature to Pricemaker - Tangara By Inches in a Thrilling Finish. - AURORA, 111., Sept. 6. The Fox Valley Business Mens Racing Association inaugurated its twenty-five days of racing this afternoon under auspices that promise well for the success of the meeting. It was an entirely new plant that the visitors found from the last year. There were still traces of crudeness, but the slight defects will be smoothed out before long. The attendance for the opening day was a fairly good one, mostly Chicagoans. The special trains were loaded to their capacity. Most of the Chicagoans elected to travel the 35 miles to the track by automobiles. Forty-eight layers quoted odds and the betting system was a reminder of old times when open betting prevailed at all tracks. In lieu of slates the layers used their programs and displayed their prices to all who wished to see. Money was passed to the layer and the bettor, if the latter won, was promptly paid by the cashier directly in back of the layers. The bettor was given a small ticket as a memorandum of his bet. TRACK LESS THAN MILE. An error in construction was discovered this morning and it was found that the course instead of being of mile regulation was 184 feet short There will be no effort I to remedy this defect at this meeting and the starting of a mile and all races over a mile will be moved back to meet the full distance. The new strip of ground added to the old half mile course is lightning fast and good time was the order throughout. The racing was spirited and devoid of any outward incidents such as usually come when racing is over new ground. The horses raced over the new ground without bobble or stumble and even on the turns held their positions. Several of the finishes were extremely close and hard fought The principal attraction, a mile and a sixteenth handicap for a purse of ,000, resulted in victory for Pricemaker under the guidance of the unknown It. Zucchini. At that, the youngster gave the winner a better and more hustling ride than the veteran Pickens who had the mount on the favorite, Prince Tii Tii. The latter was probably the best, but Pickens would not take a chance of going through the next inner rail resulting in his landing in third place, Pricemaker winning from Billy Star. DOC HORN ALL THE WAY. The opener found Doc Horn the winner after he had led for the entire way, Alleden finishing in second place with Fretwell heading the others. Ponjola tired in the last sixteenth badly. The second race produced a thrilling finish with Tangara the victor by a matter of inches over Idle Seth with the favorite Brilliant in third place. Tangara and Idle Seth had it between them for the entire way, Tangara getting up in the last stride. The third race was anather closely fought out affair with Eventido landing the purse in the last few strides from the fast coming Fifty-Fifty. There were twelve starters in the fifth race, with Boys Beleive Me backed with rare confidence. He gave the layers consternation in the stretch when he took the lead but Eddie Jr., coming with a rush right at the end, beat him home by a nose. Louise Wagner finished in third place. The closing race fell to Round Robin, which won because of being better ridden than Ten Can. The latter was best but faltered right at the end when his diminutive rider weakened. Glentilt finished well and outstayed the poorly ridden Bench Manager. Wong Bok and Flying Prince would have figured more prominently with a decent ride.
