AMERICAN STARS PREPARE Epinards Opponents Getting on Edge for Third International to Be Run at Latonia Saturday. LATONIA, Ky., Oct. 7 The Lexington Stables five-year-old My Play was the only aspirant for International Special honors to be worked over the mile and a quarter distance Tuesday morning. The big, rangy son of Fair Play showed that he is still possessed of great speed when he galloped the journey in 2:05, running in the following fractional time: :23, 4Sy5, 1:14, 1:39. His time for the final quarter was twenty-six and two-fifths seconds. He was not fully extended at any stage and performed to the satisfaction of trainer Jim McClelland. Princess Doreen, the only filly being prepared for the big race, and whom many shrewd horsemen believe will beat all tnc colts, showed remarkable speed in a short trial. Tho filly fairly Hew over the course to cover three-eighhs in :34, and a half in :4G. She was eased up to cover five-eighths in :50. This time was recorded by the dockers, but some trainers, including Kay Spence, caught her three-eighths in :3375, and five-eighths in :58. Some idea of the fast track prevailing at Latonia and the speed shown by the Audley Farm filly may bo gained when it is mentioned that the track record for five-eighths is :59, held by Wise Counsellor. Trainer Spence is well satisfied with the condition of Princess Doreen and will attempt nothing of a sensational order with the filly before the day of the race. Wednesday morning she will be given a slow gallop at one mile and a quarter and after that will not be asked to extend herself in her work. On a fast track the filly is a certain starter next Saturday, but she will hardly be sent to the post should Continued on sixteenth page.
