BY NARROW MARGIN John T. D. Wins Rainbow Claiming Stakes at Empire City. Outlasts Barney Google in Rat- tling Finish Rampas Handicap Easy for Sun Audience. YONKERS, N. Y., Oct 28. For a feature at the track on the hill Tuesday, the offering of the Empire City Racing Association was the Rainbow, a claiming stake for two-. year-olds. It brought a rattling finish and saw William Daniels John T. D. winner by a nat-row margin from Edward Arlingtons Barney Google, with James Butlers Bright Steel a distant third. The race was worth ?2,390 to the winner. With a continuation of the delightfully Indian summer weather there was another great crowd out for the sport The track was at its best and the sport first class. In addition to the Rainbow there was the Ramapo Handicap that was easy for Lee Rosenbergs Sun Audience, while a condition race at a mile and seventy yals brought together rather a good band of contestants. The start for the Rainbow was good for all but James Butlers White Wash, one that wheeled slightly as the barrier rose and had scant chance. Barney Google left the post running and Callahan at once took him ivtc a lead of a couple of lengths where he rated along strongly. Peter Paul was in second place ar.d just showing the way to John T. D. and Bright Steel was leading the others. Watts had broken a bit slowly and. was in trouble almost from the start BAEJfEY GOOGLE TIRES. It was after rounding the turn out of the back stretch that little Georgie Cooper began to move up on the inside with John T. D. He gradually wore down Peter Paul and before the stretch was reached, was racing second to Barney Google, but thu Arlington colt still enjoyed what appeared to be a safe lead. Through the last eighth Barney Google began to tire slightly and John T. D., under a vigorous drive, drew up on him until he finally had him headed to come on home winner by something more than a length. Barney Google readily saved second place, and Bright Steel squeezed through on the inner rail to save third from Peter Paul. The others were well strung out with White Wash far back. There was a disqualification came out of the running of the mile and a sixteenth of the second race when P. J. Lavins Valor, after finishing second, was set back for a stretch foul in which Intrepid was almost thrown down and Invictus also met with serious interference. This race fell to Broomfield, racing under the silks of S. Gooch, and by the ruling of the stewards, it moved Intrepid into second place, and Peter J. into third. Reliable, Valor and Stonewall were the ones to cut out most of the running, while Broomfield was blocked badly going to the first turn and forced to run wide to find room. Allen worked his way up gradually with him and then saved ground on the stretch turn, but had to weave out again to come around the leaders in the last eighth. At the end he was going away, five lengths to the good. Valor, Intrepid and Invictus were racing closely lapped as the winner came around them and Valor was on the outside. When Beach" drove him he bumped Intrepid, almost throwing him down and at the same time Invictus was knocked back badly. This enabled Valor to finish an easy second and Intrepid, after recovering from the bump, just lasted to nose out Peter J. for third, with Invictus fourth. Then came the disqualification and the revised placing. SILVER FOX MAKES GOOD. Silver Fox, the handsome big son of Grey Fox II. and Mary Queen of Scots, for which Harry F. Sinclair paid a fancy price, finally won a race under the Rancocas silks when he was first in the five and a half furlongs dash, the first contest of the day. At the end ho was doing his best to beat Lee Rosenbergs Polly McWiggles and Mrs. D. C. Landers Irish Marine was rather a distant third. Polly McWiggles showed the most alertness leaving the barrier and Callahan quickly crossed with her from the outside to the inside rail position. Silver Fox was soon in second, place and from that instant it resolved into a two-horse race. At the head of the stretch Silver Fox was alongside the filly, but she hung on with such courage that M. Fator had to ride the grey colt out vigorously to have him winner. Irish Marine steadily improved his position in the running and was a fast-going third at the finish, but he was two lengths back of the Rosenberg filly and still two lengths further back came Barbary, a stablemate to Silver Fox. Continued on sixteenth page. BY NARROW MARGIN Continued from first page. The others were fairly well lapped, with the exception of R. Newmans Reveillon, one that began so slowly as to be virtually left at the pest. After both Nose Dive and Fraternity II had been withdrawn from the mile and seventy yards of the Ramapo Handicap it only left Lee Rosenbergs Sun Audience and the Swingalong Stables Rival to perform and it was not much of a race. Sun Audience was much the better. Mr. Vosburgh had asked Rival to give Sun Audience five pounds and it was one of his mistakes and he does not make many for Sun Audience merely played with the son of Theo. Cook and Pictons Pride and was only cantering to win by half a dozen lengths. With the pair leaving on the same stride, Sun Audience at once went into command and Callahan had only to sit still and have him romp along there at all times master of the situation. Several times in the running Thomas attempted to send Rival up to the son of Sun Briar, but to no avail and he really drove the colt when there was no possible chance under any sort cf punishment to catch the leader. The Swingalong Stables Swingalong, ridden by H. Thomas, was an easy winner of the Oakdale Purse, at a mile and seventy yards, from H. M. Howards Nose Dive, while King ONeill II. was third. The winner raced to his best form and after assuming the lead at the far turn drew away to win well in hand at the end. Nose Dive set the early pace, but tired badly when called upon. Two gray thoroughbreds accounted for races at Empire City when Nellie Grey was winner of the final race of the afternoon, at six furlongs. Fly By raced to second place, while Blissful was third. The winner went to the front entering the stretch and then drew away to win with speed in reserve.
