l j j i i i , 1 : . ! 1 ;g j i ; Master Charlies Blood Lines Nothing can now deprive Master Charlie of the well-earned fame of being one of the bright lights among the successful two-year-olds of 1924. His licking by fast older horses in the Second Serial Weight-for-Age Race at Pimlico Saturday is not in the least to his discredit. In one way and another Phil Chinn has played a big part in the American turf of recent years. Not the least was his discernment in buying Master Charlie in England and bringing him over to lend adornment to the racing campaign of this year. Lord Archer, daddy of Master Charlie,, was of no fame in English racing, but the fact that he was a shapely young horse of desirable blood lines induced the proprietor of the noted Melton Studs to add him to its list of stallions. His first crop of foals was sold at the Newmarket December sales of 1922. Being the progeny of an untried sire, low prices were realized without exception. The colt which is now Master Charlie was knocked down to C. F. Madden for 25. Phil Chinn has shown frequently that he has a shrewd eye for the racing promise bound up in the glossy hide of a baby horse and took this colt from Mr. Madden for a srr.all advance. Then in turn he sold him to his present owner at the Saratoga auction sales of 1923 for the moderate sum of ,000, a bargain among all noted bargains. Master Charlie is a grandson of Spearmint and therefore a male line descendant of the mighty stayers Carbine and Miisket No stouter blood is in the world. Chicle is already showing what it can do in this country and Johren will probably be showing results in the same line presently. The ancestral lines of Master Charlie will stand analysis and here they are, together with-his racing record: i JIuskct Datc- Tract. Dist. Fin. Won. u Carbine 2 rSpear- f,r ., ,7.
