CLARENCE KUMMER INJURED Crack Jockey May Lose Two Fingers as Result of Peculiar Auto Accident. NEW YORK, N. T.. Nov. 11. Clarence Kummer, generally recognized as the best rider in this country since Earl Sande met with his accident at Saratoga, is out of action for the remainder of the year and may lose two fingers of his right hand as the result of a peculiar accident Kummer went to Pimlico Saturday to keep several riding engagements. While there he received an urgent telephone message from his home at Hollis Court, Long Island, informing him of the birth of a daughter. La-verne Fator drove him to the Baltimore railroad station to catch the 9 :30 train for New York. After Kummer had alighted from the automobile either Fator or a station porter slammed the door of the automobile, crushing two of the riders fingers. Kummers physician is trying to save the fingers, but is not optimistic, as the third and fourth fingers of the right hand are badly crushed and it is doubtful whether the injury will heal satisfactorily.
