AMERICAN RACE OF 00,000 VALUE IN SIGHT j Famous Futurity May Be Worth That Stupendous Amount in 1927 Westchester 1 Racing Association Increases Added Value of Race From 0,000 to 5,000 and With Increased Entry List Gross Value Should Reach That Sum NEW YORK, N. Y., Dec. G. There never has been a 00,000 race run in this country. However, the day is not far distant when a stake of that value may be contested for here i in New York at Belmont Park. The Westchester Racing Association has paved the way for the realization of such a contest. It will not be a new fixture, one specially created for such , a purpose. Instead the time-honored Futurity, an heirloom of the famous Coney Island Jockey Club, invested with historical and romantic lore of the turf both from a . breeding and racing standpoint, was selected to be the vehicle for such a glorious consummation. 1 In issuing the blanks for the Futurity of 1D27 the Westchester Racing Association announces an increase in added money from 0,000 to 5,000, the starting fee likewise being increased from 50 to ,000. Under such auspicious conditions and with an expected increase in entries as a result the gross value of the noted Futurity three years This years Futurity, which was won by H. P. Whitneys filly Mother Goose, had a gross value of 8,1S0. The winners share totaled 5,730. The value of the Futurity has grown steadily in recent years, but the highest dates Dack to 1S90 when the third running of the stake at Sheepshead Bay netted August Belmonts Potomac 1924.sh7,675. Masher was second and Strathmeath third in the field of fifteen starters. The second, tnird and fourth horses, as well as the nominators, all will receive increased shares of the stake in 1927. xnc second horse will receive ,000 of the added ironey and 40 per cent of the starting fees. The third horse will receive ,000 of the added money and 20 per cent of me starting fees. The fourth horse will receive ,000 of the added money. SG,000 FOR NOMINATORS. Six thousand dollars will be distributed among the nominatois of the first three horses as against ,750 this year. The nominator of the dam of the winner will receive ,000, of the second horse ,000, and of the third horse ,000 of the added money. This year the stakes, in addition to the 0,000 added by the association, were derived from nomination and declaration of I, 390 horses and a starting fee of 50 from each of the twenty-nine contestants. It is confidently expected that the nominations for the race of 1927 will exceed 1,900, which, with the increased starting fee and added money, will make the event worth 100,000 or more. Together with blanks for the 1927 Futurity, entry sheet for the Matron Stakes of 1926 were issued. Entries for these events close on January 3, next. The Matron Stakes is a three-quarter mile race fcr two-year-old fillies foals of 1924 and has an added money value of ,000. Breeders of the first three horses will divide a total of ,400 among them as against 00 this year. In addition to the Futurity, the Westchester Racing Association will stage one of the richest events for three-year-olds also I in 1927. The Belmont Stakes of that year i will have an added value of 25,000. This event recently closed with 500 nominations, and indications are that its gross value will be about 00,000.
