MILE TRACK AT SALT LAKE Fair Grounds Half-Mile Course to Be Enlarged — Plan Two Meetings This Year. William P. Kyne, general manager of the newly established Utah Racing Association, arrived in Chicago yesterday from Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Kyne announced that the half mile track at the Fair Grounds in Salt Lake City would be enlarged to a mile course and that another grandstand would be built in addition to the present one, which would increase the seating capacity to approximately 6,000. The Utah Racing Association will operate with the Utah State Fair, which has been granted a license for two years by the Utah State Racing Commission under the provisions of the racing law recently enacted, which permits the operation of the pari-mutuel in connection with horse racing. It is the plan of Mr. Kyne and his associates to conduct two meetings at Salt Lake City this year of about 45 or 50 days duration. They exepect to be ready to hold the first meeting beginning July 2. but desire to avoid a clash of dates with Reno and will await announcement of the Nevada people before definitely deciding on the opening date. The minimum purse offering for Salt Lake City will be 00, while several handicaps of ,500 are being considered to attract the better grade of horses. Mr. Kyne further announced that he will be in charge of the racing at Ogden, where a mile track will be built for a meeting next year. The Chamber of Commerce of that city is back of this venture and has already been allotted a license by the State Racing Commission.
