TRAINING AT LOUISVILLE i ■ i — Boon Companion Goes a Mile in Satisfactory Manner. i Quatrain Shows No Signs of Soreness — Lee O. Cotncr and Captain Hal in Fine Fettle. ♦ LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 24.— The continued hot weather that has prevailed here for the past two days caused most of the trainers of Derby eligibles to get their charges out rather early this morning. By far the best and most interesting move of the morning was the mile work accomplished by Boon Companion. The colt worked a mile in 1:43% in a very satisfactory manner. The colt was accompanied by Barracuda of the Sam Holman stable and they began at the three-quarters post. The fractions were: :12, :24%, :Z6%, :49%, 1:02, 1:15% and 1:29%. Trainer Woodmans intentions were to only send the colt seven-eighths, but when rounding the turn approaching the seven-eighths post the colt resisted the efforts of his light rider to ease him up and continued out the mile, finishing on even terms with Barracuda. Frederick Johnsons Quatrain was out for a slow gallop of one mile. He pulled up free from any soreness and walked back to the stable apparently a sound horse. Lee O. Cotner was out for a slow gallop of a mile. Captain Hal, who is carrying the hopes of a large number of Kentuckians in the big event, was sent out for his morning gallop and this colt, like Lee O. Cotner, is showing no effects of the Derby prep he is receiving. Trainer Al Woodman states that jockey Eddie Ambrose will ride Boon Companion in tho Derby. A special, consisting of a number of cars, is due from Tijuana some time today. They will include the Weant horses, those of John McKee and the Pueblo Stable. Al Kirby is an arrival from Hot Springs, and will assume charge of the Island Farm Stable racers, which arrived here some days ago from Miami.
