FRED A. began quickly and drew away into a clear lead in the first sixteenth, then was hard ridden all the way and, withstanding a challenge from COMMISSIONER at the eighth post, was drawing clear again at the end. COMMISSIONER ran well, but tired after getting to the leaders head in the stretch. MARGARET ST. L. finished well and outgamed FLORA STAR. QUICK LUNCH began flat-footed. LOG FIRE raced SHUFFLE to defeat in the first quarter and drew away into a long lead while rounding the turn into the home stretch but kept swerving cut near the end and finished on the outside PHEASANT was outpaced in the eary running, but saved ground where possible and. finishing fast inside of the winner, was gaining at the end. SOUTHERN MELODY was a forward contender all the way. MURIEL S. showed early speed, but tired. GETTYSBURG closed a big gap and finished with a rush. EXALTED RULER set a fast early pace and. after being headed, forced LEATHERWOOD along when the latter took the lead on the last turn, then raced into the lead again after making a wide turn when entering the home stretch. LADY GLASSEN was a forward contender from the start and wore LEATHERWOOD down in the last eighth and outgamed him at the end. The latter was used in forcing and setting the pace and tired in the final drive. CARLTON began slowly and was shuffled back. AVELLFINDER raced well. STRUT MISS LIZZIE finished fast.
