LOUISVILLE TRACKS HEAVY Bain and Cold Retard Training i — Swingalong Threatened With Pneumonia LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 29.— Conditions at both the local tracks were unfavorable for training operations Wednesday morning. Rain fell during the early part of the morning, both tracks were very heavy and a cold wind was blowing that was highly suggestive of late autumn weather. Little was asked of any of the Derby colts following the works of Tuesday, the exceptions being Needle Gun, Borderland and Boon Companion, which are training at Churchill Downs. The first two were sent a full mile and a quarter by trainer Wm. Spiers and they went through the mud as follows : :25% ; :52 ; 1 :20% ; 1:34%; 1:49%; 2:03%; 2:17%, finishing together. The work will doubtless bs of benefit to both colts, which have been training very satisfactorily since their arrival here. Boon Companion went a mile, accompanied by Barracuda for the first three-quarters. The two began at the three-quarters post and the fractionals were: :25%, :52, 1:21 and 1:52%. Boon Companion L"d not appear to fancy the heavy track by any means and was going very slowly at the end. Quatrain, Captain Hal and Drowsy Waters were out for slow gallops once around the track. Short gallops characterized the training of what other horses were out during the morning and there was nothing of note accomplished by any of them. The Swingalong Stable, owned by H. S. Hart, that is quartered at Douglas Park, has a sick horse in Swingalong, their sterling sprinter. The horse was unloaded from the cars last Friday ailing after a trip from Tijuana and, although seemingly doing well, he developed a high temperature Tuesday night. Dr. Harthill is hopeful of the horses eventual recovery in the event he is able to avert an attack of pneumonia.
