Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of May 21, 1905 Sunday, no racing. John W. Schorr says he will send his horses to New York as scon as the meeting at the St. Louis Fair Grounds is at an end. Georga C. Bennett, he says, has decided to do likewise and S. C. Hildreth will send on the Smathers horses to join the division of that stable which is being trained by John Lowe. Allan a Dale worked a sensational mile and a quarter at Churchill Downs Saturday morning. He had weight up and covered the distance in 2:07, the first mile in 1:41/-;. The horse is right on edge just now and is probably better than at any time in his career. It looks as if he is bring pointed for some of the big eastern handicaps. With the definite understanding that racing is to begin at Latonia June 3 and end July 8, secretary E. C. Hopper began today the rearrangement of the program for the thirty one days. D. H. Barnes has begun the erection of a new barn on the space along the outsid* of the home stretch. It is to contain 300 stalls and will be ready for occupancy on tho opening day, probably tarlier. This will enable the management to quarter 1,000 horses within the grounds.
