HAWTHORNE STABLES READY Horsemen Assigned Stall Room May Now Ship Their Thoroughbreds to Cicero Race Course. Walter Meakin. supervisor of Hawthorne race track, and Ben Miller, who has charge of the sables, have their stall books all compiled and ready for any horses or stables that were assigned stable room and O.K.ed by Judge Murphy on his visit to Chicago bust Sunday. Everything is in readiness at Hawthorne for the horses and from all indications of the heavy nominaMons that have been made by eastern owners for the fifty -eight days of racing, which commences on Thursday, July 2, and runs until Labor Day, September 7, wherein the Chicago Business Mens Bacing Association is giving away ."i9.500, Hawthorne will have plenty of horse3*for the racing here. When you figure that during the racing season of fifty-eight days there are to be i six races daily, with an added feature and ! no purse carrying less than ,000, this shows that the horsemen are attraeed by I the conditions that will govern racing at Hawthorne under tho supervision of judge Joseph A. Murphy and Joseph McLennan, racing secretary. Judge Murphy is at present at Belmont Park, New York, and will leave thero Wednesday night for Cincinnati, where he will gather up the entries at that point. Mr. Joseph McLennan is at present in Ottawa. Canada, and Herman P. Conk-ling is at Aurora, while Mr. Sam Nuckols, Jr.. has been at the Louisville meeting and will also be with Judge Murphy in Cincinnati the end of this week. Hawthorne will be an Innovation to those who go through the gates on the opening day and the many improvements to the grounds will be quite a delight to the public. The new equipment installed includes: two Fordson tractors, 1925 models, with six inch pneumatic tires, and in the test they circled the track In less than three minutes. The new fire department organized under Walter Meakin. comprises a fully equipped truck, of the Babcock type with one thousand feet of hose, and the Artesan well has been thoroughly overhauled, new dynamos Installed and a new booster pump, tank and equipment completed so that Hawthorne will be amply supplied with water under pressure. The new feed barn on the switch track has been completed and accepted by the association and almcst an entire summers supply installed. The new parking space at the entrance of 52nd Avenue is under way and it is certain there will be no congestion the coming year, with the three allotted parking spaces. The stables have all been renovated and painted with cold water paint and anti-ceptic sprayed and the fencing around the lake completed, and the feathered fowl installed. The fencing around the course has also been painted and everything is in apple pie order for the opening. ♦
