LATONIAS GRAND RACING Idle Hour Farm9 s Blockhead Victorious in the Harold Stakes Scores in Decisive Fashion Over Best of Western WesternJuveniles Juveniles Gibbons Annexes Sinton SintonHotel Hotel Handicap LATONIA Ky June 20 The Harold Stakes of 8000 net to the winner was annexed by Blockhead regarded as the second string of the Idle Hour Farm Stable entry of which Barcolo was the main dependence The race brought to the post what was regarded as the best of the juvenile division and Blockhead won over them with great ease He was ridden by the diminutive G Johnson and he rode the big colt vigorously and kept him at his best I ace from the start startThere There was a slight delay at the post caused chiefly by My Colonel which during his fractious periods fell but did no damage to his rider or himself The dozen that faced the starter began well and Prince of Wales moved at once into the lead followed by Supporter and Barcolo with Blockhead also in close proximity Barcolo was taken back when the others began surrounding him and Johnson continued hustling his mount and he moved up to Prince of Wales with a rush The pair raced on even terms for just a brief space of time when rounding the stretch turn but Blockhead drew out decisively in the next sixteenth and he had the race well in hand during the last eighth Supporter and Percentage were fighting it out strongly in back of him but near the end Percentage swerved out and it enabled Alleghan coming steadily next the inner rail to get up for third place The disappointments of the race were Barcolo Take a Chance and Prince Charles The latter was always far back and showed a dull performance Take a Chance loomed promisingly for a quarter of a mile only and then faded from the picture pictureGIBBONS GIBBONS GAME RACE RACEThe The Sinton Hotel Handicap which served as the secondary feature to the Harold Stakes brought to the post some fast short distance racers to go the five and a half furlongs It resulted in success for Gibbons which ran a game race first to dispose of Arcady and later to withstand the deter ¬ mined bid of Reputation Gibbons and Ar ¬ cady were almost on even terms until straightened in the stretch where Arcady began giving away and later swerved out badly almost losing third place as a result King Nadi after being far out of it came steadily during the stretch and just missed getting up for a portion of the purse King Nadi was sent out to the mile post covering the complete distance in 140 well in hand at the end endThe The Sinton Hotel Management donated an ornate silver service in the race to the winner Manager John L Horgan of the Sinton Hotel made the presentation to train ¬ er M Shapoff representing owner Croissant The splendid racing offering provided for the afternoon coupled with the ideal weath ¬ er resulted in a big attendance being on hand to view some excellent sport replete with close finishes finishesMIDGET MIDGET COMBINATION WINS WINSJ J N Camdens diminutive Rothermel rid ¬ den by the midget G Johnson was an ap ¬ pealing combination to the big crowd and they backed it confidently in the Cote Bril ¬ liant Purse and were rewarded by seeing the success of the pair after a spirited and spectacular race Rothermel in the early part had to content herself by following closely in the wake of the giant Modest but she headed him after half a mile and when seemingly having the race well in hand she suddenly had to exert herself to the utmost to withstand the stout challenge of King Gorin II The latter came with a rush dur ¬ ing the last quarter and he was pressing the little filly hard at the end Hopeless after reaching far out of it came steadily in the stretch and overhauled the fast tiring Guest of Honor and Modest ModestIn In the third race Bona Vera and By Gosh started an entertaining duel in the stretch considerable distance off from the remainder of the field with Bona Vera winning by a short margin Midwestern was the supposed good thing here and he raced disappointingly though he did finish in third place Bonn Vera displaced the early leaders before half a mile had been traversed and once in tho lead she looked to be able to make a runaway race of it but By Gosh gave her a rousing argument all during the last eighth and only failed by a short margin marginE E Trotters colors were carried to victory for the first time in nearly two years when his Corncracker won off from the twoyear olds that started with him in the second race Scobie hustled him hard from the outset and he responded well and after the first quarter there was not a doubt about his victory Happy Bob an outsider stood a final drivo gamely and just managed to be up in the last stride to beat Lombardo The latter after racing forwardly began tiring and just managed to beat out Twister by a nose
