, I FUTURE PLANS FOR TAMPA Entire Plant to Be Beautified and Much Improved — No Conflict With Miami. TAMPA. Fla.. March 31 -The generous support of the racing at Tampa Downs that has been accorded by the entire West Coast during the present meeting was commented on by president Harvey Myers today in an expression outlining- the tentative plans for next years sport. President Myers indicated that tho recent visit to Tampa Downs by president J. M. Smoot, of the Miami Jockey Clab, has resulted in an arrangement of dates for next year that will avoid any conflict such as that obtained this year. He indicated too that next years meeting here would be of shorter miration and expressed his gratification that the support accorded had made it one of the West Coasts most attractive inst itutions. "We are particularly grateful for the publics support in view of the many difficulties encounUrod in completing the plant," said president Myers. "The many who have visited us have all remarked about tiie beauty of the setting and the opportunity for enhancement Of its attractiveness. This opportunity wo shall surely avail ourselves of. For next year we expect to complete a clubhouse of ample dimensions ami one th.it will rank with the best in the country. We shall construct, too, a concrete lawn and build sunken gardens and plant tropical shrubbery that will make it truly a beautii" 1 ■SOL The infield this year was not at all what w«- had planned to construct. "Next year this will embrace a beautiful lake, made possible by the two streams that have their confluence there and the verges of the lake will be adorned with plant life that will make it a place of great beauty. "The forest back ground for the track has been the source of much pleasing comment! from our friends and all have pronounced1 Tampa Downs as a most attractive racing course." President Myers announced that the West Coast Jockey Club is a local institution with thousands of stockholders in St. Petersburg. Clearwater. Tampa and nearby towns and they would be guided as to dates for next season by the wishes of the business interests hereabouts. Hundreds of congratulatory messages have reached the club on the clean conduct of the sport by the official personnel now in charge aad other messages express the thought that next years program will start at an earlier date and thus afford an opportunity fori greater tourist attendance. That racing is a great magnet for tourists is indicated by the large attendance at the Downs now and by the crowded condition of hotels in St. Petersburg. Clearwater and Tampa, where racing enthusiasts ate making their headquarters. * — _
