IMPROVEMENTS AT ASCOT LONDON, England, March 31— The many alterations and improvements at the Ascot racecourse, which were taken in hand soon after the conclusion of the last meeting, am now nearing completion. Of most interest to owners and jockeys is the scheme adopted for watering the course, which hitherto has been somewhat on the hard side after a long spell of dry weather. The authorities have laid about five miles of three-inch and four-inch water mains around the old and the new course, in some places on each side of it. These pipes are connected with another series of smaller pipes about four feet above ground, pierced with innumerable holes. It is the intention to let this watering commence at sundown when necessary and continue throughout the night.
