LADIES DAY AT COLUMBUS Coquina Almost Left at Post PostRecovers Recovers Quickly and Wins WinsFeature Feature Race of the Day COLUMBUS Ohio May 14 C E Davi sons Coquina accounted for the fifth and principal race of the Ladies Day program at Beulah Park this afternoon The race was over a route of six and onehalf furlongs and provided an exciting contest all the way Six starters faced the barrier and the field was away in good alignment all but Coquina The latter dwelt momentarily but was quick to recover and raced up to the leaders in the first half mile then saving ground next to the inner rail when the leaders went wide went to the front ap ¬ proaching the far turn and holding on well for the remainder of the way held the others safe thereafter The winner was hard ridden and well handled by jockey W Lam berson Bullet Proof took second place in this race outstaying Hole Card in the final strides after the two had hooked up in a hard drive at the head of the stretch stretchRain Rain fell intermittently throughout the afternoon but despite the uninviting condi ¬ tions a good crowd was on hand to witness the sport sportPrincess Princess Jane scored decisively in the third race After racing along under slight re ¬ straint close behind Mala the early pace iraker the winner went around on the out sHe of the leader with ease at the far turn j and drew out into a commanding lead in the stretch run Kinburn improving his position slowly from a slow beginning disposed of the others in the run home and Maudina out ¬ stayed the tiring Mala for third place placeWine Wine Jug displaying good speed and capa bly ridden by jockey P Cogan held sway throughout in the fourth race Redskin out ¬ lasted the others for place while Mitzi McGee lasted to save third place from Maddens town townKentucky Kentucky Rose racing in her best form and hustled along throughout by jockey Pic cirillo accounted for the first race leading for the entire trip to score an easy victory Mandy moving up determinedly on the out ¬ side of the leader in the first half mile offered stiff opposition in the stretch but then bore out and tired slightly in the final drive allowing P Moody to outstay her for second place in the last sixteenth sixteenthBoxwood Boxwood displaying keen speed throughout and holding on well at all stages proved a surprise by taking the measure of his oppo ¬ nents in the second race John Joseph al ¬ ways held the others safe for second place while Ciceronian after racing on the outside of the others throughout easily disposed of the remainder for third thirdM M H Jordan in saddling Mason Towle which accounted for the sixth race in handy fashion made it a double for the day Wine Jug having been the other Jordan color bearer to be returned victorious Mason Towle raced well up for the entire distance and coming to the outside of Recoup the early leader in the stretch overhauled the latter a sixteenth out and drew away to victory Recoup although tiring from his early efforts in setting the pace held on well and saved the place from Gen Cadorna CadornaT T J Abrams purchased Mighty from O Yzquierdo at private sale saleJockey Jockey W Habjan was an arrival and was seen in the saddle in this afternoons races racesV V B Campbell exchanged Bill Ainsworth for Tea Cosy the latter formerly owned by T Wilson Bill Ainsworth raced in T Wil ¬ sons ThursdaySixteen interest in the fourth race Thursday Sixteen horses comprising the W R Pad ¬ gett stable were shipped to Aurora
