STATLER MAKES GOOD Scores Popular Victory in Geneva Handicap at Aurora St Nicholas Arabella and Kos Kosman man Score Easily Achieved AchievedVictories Victories Big Crowd AURORA 111 May 28 A small but select field of five paraded for the Geneva Handi ¬ cap feature attraction at Exposition Park this afternoon and it resulted in a most ex ¬ citing finish in which Moshier Walters Statler oulgarned S Mosts Balboa by a neck Smiling Gus carrying the Durnell colors was an easy third two lengths away awayJockey Jockey Cogan saved much ground with Miss Jennie at the first turn where the others went wide The Tea Caddy filly continued to show the way to the turn for home with Smiling Gus Balboa and Statler following An cighth out Miss Jennie retired from the struggle Balboa and Statler then challenged and in a desperate drive the latter proved the gamer Smiling Gus raced forwardly through ¬ out with no mishaps and tired when called upon in the final struggle struggleIdeal Ideal racing conditions once more prevailed and the attendance was the largest of the week The Chicago delegation coming by special trains was particularly large largeW W M Cain withdrew Arragosa from the Geneva Handicap electing to start him in the seventh race he having been named over ¬ night in both contests Statler ruled favorite with the form plajers for the Geneva Handi ¬ cap and his victory was a popular one oneINDUSTRIOUS INDUSTRIOUS FAILS FAILSIndustrious Industrious attempted to make a runaway of the initial dash with St Nicholas in closest pursuit When called upon in the final fur ¬ long St Nicholas had most in reserve and drew away handily near the end Barberry the favorite could never improve third posi ¬ tion until the last sixteenth but finished gamely and saved the place from the resolute finishing Ink Industrious tired badly when the real test came cameOpening Opening up a commanding early lead Ara ¬ bella never left the result in serious doubt in the second which attracted a limit field of twoyearolds Tamea after racing in closest pursuit of the winner until midway of the stretch gave away near the end and Mayor Behrmaii moving up from third position out ¬ lasted the Trotter filly for second place The Hovel from which much was expected could never get to the leaders leadersClosing Closing with a wonderful burst of speed while rounding the stretch Kosman took com ¬ mand when straightened out and was re ¬ turned an easy winner of the third dash After racing on the outside for much of the way Rocking outfinished Glory for sec ¬ ond place Glory in turn barely outlasted the fast finishing Whiff which closed a tremen ddus gap after being crowded back shortly after the start startItAIFV ItAIFV IJIRTIIDAT SURPRISES SURPRISESJ J Ncharnkins Happy Birthday provided somewhat of a surprise when he took the measure of some good sprinters in the Expec ¬ tant fourth and secondary feature Down ca st cut out the early running Star Dust and Happy Birthday raced up into contention after rounding the far turn and when straightened out for the run home Happy Birthday drew away to a handy victory Star Dust was as easily best of the others Finishing with a belated rush in the last sixteenth Harvey Stedrnan outstayed the tiring Downcast for the short end of the purse purseAn An ordinary band of platers answered the bugle for the sixth race for which Zucca and High Card were choices When the field was dispatched Sister Diana was rushed to the front and at no stage was she seriously threatened High Card well up from the start had no excuses and handily disposed of Black Air during the stretch run The latter found the route too fur furIt It remained for the concluding race to pro ¬ vide the most exciting stretch struggle of the afternoon The Spa raced in close pur suit of Pud and Arragosa to the turn for home then gradually improved his position liut was doing his best at the end to outlast Jloyal Princess The latter took command an eighth out but tired slightly during the final drive Sagamook closing with a belated rush headed Columbia and Iud in the last few strides for third Commencing the last sixteenth the first five horses were so closely bunched it appeared as if any one of them might be returned the winner winnerLola Lola Montez was claimed from A A UaronI by the Oklahoma Stable out of the fj vcrith race for J3000
