TREMENDOUS CROWD AT FAIRMOUNT PARK Captain Hal Victorious in Collinsville Handicap in Fast Time Easily Takes Measure of Sunsard Prince of Wales Walesand and Other Fast Sprinters in Big Inaugural InauguralFeature Feature at Track Near St Louis COLLINSVILLE 111 May 29 A A Kaisers Captain Hal accounted for tho Fairmount Jockey Clubs inaugural stake fixture the Collinsville Handicap of 5000 added and worth 7290 net to the winner He vanquished ten other sprinters that included Sunsard and Prince o Wales The latter pair finished second and third respectively Captain Hal raced the threequarters in 112 which reduces the former track record by onefifth second secondCaptain Captain Hal proved conclusively his superiority over the others He had up 326 pounds and raced promptly into the lead immediately after the start He was followed closely during the early stages by part of the field but when Pool elected to free him from restraint he shot away from his opponents with utmost ease and all during the last eighth he was well under restraint Sunsard showed a good perform ¬ ance but he would have been given a harder tussle for second place by Prince of Wales had the latter had better handling handlingR R Williams who rode the McLean repre ¬ sentative raced him into a pocket and caused him to suffer interference during the first half mile He came strong when clear in the stretch but could not do better than account for third place Hotirmore was another that showed a good effort He was completely out of it in the first sixteenth but closed an immense gap in the stretch Stonewall Jackson one of the starters was eased after the first quarter and did not finish finishThe The citizens of Collinsville who attended in great numbers gave the owner an ornate silver trophy and Captain Hal was presented with a costly blanket blanketGUANITE GUANITE WAKE EASILY EASILYThe The sport began auspiciously for the public when Granite Ware a stoutly backed choice won with consummate ease in the inaugural dash that brought a dozen fairly good sprinters to the post to race threequarters Granite Ware raced as if best and the Lowenstein representative was well in hand at the end Lady Bountiful coming with a rush landed in second place just getting up to outstay Post Mistress The latter raced with the leaders from the start but began tiring near the end Meddling Mattiu began slowly and closed an immense amount of ground in the last quarter after racing wide wideH H Teller Archibald began auspicously when his first time starter here Candy Light was an easy victress in the maiden race that brought to the post some young ¬ sters There might have been a different re ¬ sult had Tommy Foster not bolted when ap ¬ proaching the stretch turn The International Stable representative was in the lead at the time and seemingly going well in hand when he suddenly bolted and continued racing to the outer rail Candy Light had been fol ¬ lowing him closely but Pool took back when it appeared imminent that Tommy Foster would run out and when he came wide it gave Candy Light the lead and she kept it to the finish winning well under restraint Gnome Second finished with a rush and landed in second place with Scholarship in advance of the others othersGOLDEN GOLDEN MAC WINNER WINNERMrs Mrs T IT Buschers highly regarded Golden Mac was returned winner of the Inaugural at a mile in which five other three yearolds contested The field included Tocher winner of the Tampa Derby He propped at the barrier causing him to be virtually left at the post He never figured strongly in the running Golden Mac under hustling tactics moved into a good lead at once but in the stretch Prince Ronald began pressing him hard and Groos had to ride the leader hard in the last eighth to retain com ¬ mand He won by several lengths but was under pressure Irince Ilonald held on well in the final drive and was many lengths In advance of Spanish Star StarHarned Harned Brothers Blarney Stone was the third successive favorite to win His victory came in the mile and a sixteenth race and furnished considerable excitement for the big crowd He was kept far out of it in the first quarter his chances appearing hope ¬ less and it did not look Improved when his rider raced him wide at the stretch turn but he came with a great rush through the stretch and was up to beat Alard an out ¬ sider Alard and Billy Mann raced in the lead for most of the way but both tired slightly through the last eighth The erratic Kumkin was a disappointment here
