Fair mounts Opening Colonel Winn C Bruce Head Headand and L T Hay Well Pleased PleasedWith With Auspicious Beginning COLLINSVILLE 111 May 29 Regarding the opening days crowd at the spring meet ¬ ing of the Fairmount Jockey Club C Bruce Head general manager Matt J Winn man ¬ aging director and Lyman T Hay president all expressed keen satisfaction satisfactionWe We are highly encouraged with our open ¬ ing day manager Head said It is indic ¬ ative of the great interest in racing held by the people of St Louis and the vicinity and the splendid card of today is but the fore ¬ runner of the next thirtyone days racing in which many of the best horses on the turf will contest for supremacy I am sure we are to have a race meeting of which we will all be proud and which will furnish to the race lovers of this section an entertain ¬ ment of the highest class classColonel Colonel Winn who is general manager of the Kentucky Jockey Club operating the Churchill Downs and Latonia tracks and in addition is the head of the organization now building Lincoln Fields the new 3000 000 racing plant near Chicago was also highly pleased with the Fairmount opening A wonderful crowd of splendid people and every person enjoying the entire program from the lunches in the clubhouse and res ¬ taurant to the finish of the last race It certainly presages a most successful meeting meetingLyman Lyman T Hay who is president of the Fairmount Jockey Club has been tirelessly active for several years in his efforts to establish racing in the vicinity of St Louis was one of the happiest men in the immense throng throngThe The splendid attendance at Fairrnount Park today of leading and influential citizens of St Louis and southern Illinois convinces me that my efforts in providing the means of the revival of the great sport in this vicinity have not been spent in vain 1 have felt all along that the people of St Louis and this section want clean and whole ¬ some sport and this crowd of people at Fair mount Park today verifies the views I have held for years
