POSTDISPATCH PURSE Furnishes an Unusual Incident in Race at Fairmount Park Three Sons of Under Fire Finish FinishFirst First Second and Third With WithFlag Flag Lieutenant Victor COLLTNSVILLE 111 June 10 The Post Dispatclv Purse at a mile and seventy yards serving as the feature on Fairmount Parks program brought about the unusual incident of three sons of Under Fire finishing first second and third The winner was Flag Lieutenant carrying top impost and con ¬ ceding the others weight He was ridden by E Pool and was the second choice in the mutuels Firetoma followed him closest for the entire way and held Over Fire safe when it came to the final hard drive for second place Five started in the race but Ruban Rouge and Pequot might as well have re ¬ mained in their respective stables for all the figure they cut in the race raceFlag Flag Lieutenant was rushed into the lead soon after the barriers rise and sustaining a fast pace led the others for the entire distance and making his victory assured when he increased his lead in the stretch under urging Firetoma was unuer pressure right from the start to keep in advance of Over Fire FireConsidering Considering the heat prevailing here this afternoon a surprisingly large attendance by far the best midweek crowd of the present meeting was on hand and they witnessed some of the closest racing that has been on tap this season seasonINTERESTING INTERESTING FINISHES FINISHESSome Some of the finishes were so close that it left a doubt as to the winner until the official placing The track was again in excellent condition and fast time was the order in many of the races the track record for fiveeighths being lowered by Mallards Memory in the second race raceThe The opener called for platers to race a mile and it furnished a spectacular finish be ¬ tween Alard Emancipation and Huey the former winning by a neck from Emancipa ¬ tion with Huey in third place Better rid ¬ ing for Huey might have resulted in his victory victoryThe The Audley Farm Stables first time starter Mallards Memory halfbrother to Rockminster and Captain Alcock gave a game exhibition and scored a lucky victory in the second race when he managed to beat home Miles Prior Prevail and eight others that started Mallards Memory raced prominently from the start and hold ¬ ing on gamely under skillful riding was up in the last stride to down Miles Prior The latter raced in fine style and was beaten for the third successive time as a result of an incompetent ride Mallards Memory had to lower the track record by onefifth second to beat him Prevail finished in third place Jockey Pool gave a bad riding exhibition when he took Candy Rock completely out of it soon after the start and then rode wide He closed an immense gap but could not wear down the leaders Candy Rook was again the favorite favoriteROYAL ROYAL CHARLIE I Y INCHES INCHESRoyal Royal Charlie was the third outsider that succeeded in landing a purse His victory was also by a matter of inches He regis ¬ tered over the suddenly improved Lew Pope The latter unlike in his last effort finished with determination under hard urging and would have won in a few more strides Dr T S Dabney well backed was under keen pressure for the entire distance and managed to outstay Taylor Hay for third place The others in the race were always far out of it Fred Cross a first time starter and regis ¬ tered as 13 years old was beaten off by a l ig margin marginW W Long when he was unseated also sus ¬ tained a cut about the leg as a result of Little Gipsy going through the fence fenceThe The fourth race bringing to the post some of the better sprinters here in the plater division developed one of the closest finishes of the meeting with Silver Spur just lasting to beat borne Rundark and Doctor Glenn in third place Silver Spur would have won more handily but for being ridden wide in the last quarter Rundark racing in his best form was pressing the winner hard and was in a fair way of being the winner in another stride Doctor Glenn contended strongly for half a mile but he was weakly ridden near the end and had a close call from succumbing to Happy Bob for third place There was a jam in the first eighth causing Mormile to be unseated from Better Luck Little Gipsy also furnished some excitement when she crashed through the fence after the finish Mormtle escaped in ¬ jury with the exception of a shaking up and several gashes on his legs legsAfter After winning the fourth race by a matter of an inch with Silver Spur T C McDowell failed by the same margin of making it a double for the afternoon when Jack Horgan carrying the International Stables colors earned initial victory for that establishment at this meeting
