SPECTACULAR FINISH • Feature at Fairmount Provides Most Thrilling Struggle. t Bigheart the Victor by Inches With Supporter and Chief Uncas Second and Third Respectively. ♦ COLIJNSVIU.E. III.. June St.— The claiming handicap .at three-eiuarters, serving as the feature on Fairmemnt Parks program, furnished a spectacular and interesting contest with the entire field of nine starters coming to the finish in a close group, separated by heads and nones, with Bigheart the victor, a few inches in aelvance of Supporter and Chief Ineas feillowing. The placed ones were ontsielers. favo-itsm and most sunoort going to Blockhead and Capistrano. The latter never figured seriously, being out of it in the early stages, but finished well in the stretch. Supporter showed the way t t the others, followed by Bigheart and Phantom Fire with Blockheael and Gliding Fox alsei well up. Cliding Fox. after going a quarter, was given an indifferent riele and Geving still had her under restraint all during the last sixteenth. The feature race was named in honor of University City and the business Interests of the St. Louis County metropolis had a considerable delegation on hand, including Kayor E. J. Smith and members of the board of aldermen. They presented the winner with a silver trophy. IDEAL K ING WEATHF.IJ. Ideal weather again prevailed and a particularly large attendance for Monday was on hand to view some excellent sport, though the card as a whole was elevoid of any outstanding racing stars. The Audley Farm Stables Gatewood was returned victor of the thirel race which brought to the peat maidens. Grayling finished in seeond place anel Pipes of Pan was right in his wake. The concluding race founel Dr. T. S. Dah-ney completing the downfall of the favorites. He won from the suddenly Improved Blarney Stone, which closed an immense gap in the mat quarter to land second. Chemiserie finished third with Islanel Fairy the favorite following. Reap, another well supported cine, was away poorly and was always out of thei running. J. C. McGills Shasta Tx ve again figured in a winning performance. On this occasion it was her best effort, for she appeared hopelessly out of it at one stage of the racing. but came with a tremendous rush through the stretch to wear down the leaders and win going away. FAVORITES MEET REVERSES. Favorites were beaten in the opening races. Phyllis Gentry hael the call in the initial race, but could elo no better than finish third, Porto de Oro and Papoose leading her at the end. Porto 1e Oro rae-eel in his best stylo anel. beginning fast, followed Phyllis Gentry and disposed of her when straighteneel for the stretch. He held Iapeiose safe when the latter came strong. Lilly D. created sume excitement before the race with a runaway of about three-quarters and Hidden Jewel refused to start with the others. The Audley Farm Stables High Art was backed to the exclusion of the others in the second rae-e and suffered de-feat by Golden Top. The latter came with a good rash through the stretch after a slow beginning and outstayed High Art. In the early stages High Art raced as if she would have no difficulty in leading to the finish, but she quit in the last eighth. Gold Bells would have been a much stronge r facteir with an ener-getie: ride. Shasta Gold finished a nose in advance of Double Quick for second place and Kuril Kalessi was only a nose in back of the pair. I XMible Quick suffered some interference in the rae-e, which e-ost her second place. Climax, grouped with e thers in the field, furnisheel an upset when lie was up to heat Lavtgns by a short margin for the purse, with St. Charles, another fielder, in third plae-e. The leading trio were in the van of the others for nearly the entire distance. Common Gold and Colonel Winn, the favored ones, figured slightly during the running.
