sportsman accounted for the feature Shadybrook Farm Purse at seven eighths today Her victory was accomplished without much effort and considering it was her first appearance in many months her race was a good one She led Huntsman to the finish by two lengths with Fire On third almost a like distance further back A muddy track prevailed this afternoon with the winner of the feature displaying a decided liking for the soft footing She was timed in 126 for the distance a Very creditable performance under prevailing con ¬ ditions ditionsIn In the first halfmile Earl Pool rated the winner nicely within striking distance of the leading Huntsman and after sending the filly to the outside of the pacemaker at the last turn Pool was not called upon for any great display of skill to ride his mount into the lead In the final sixteenth she drew away while Huntsman was not closely pressed for second place by Fire On The latter raced up on the outside in a menacing manner leaving the back stretch but failed utterly under W Lilleys vigorous riding in the stretch He was tiring as he finished the distance distanceThe The races were decided before a large at ¬ tendance that braved a cloudy sky to witness the sporL The racing was of a formful va ¬ riety the first three going the way of the most fancied starters The change in track conditions largely brought about by showers early this morning in the thrilling finish which marked the opening race at six and a half furlongs M Garner getting the winner lip in the last quarter with a burst of speed and in the final stride his mount dropped his nose in front of Dark Angel The latter led the others away from the barrier and set the pace under pressure in such delib ¬ erate fashion as to indicate ability to stay in frdnt for the full distance The final sixteenth however proved exacting and dur ing this portion of the dash she tired and was headed right at the finish Nicholson running much the same kind of a race as the winner got up to account for third place placeMyth Myth from the stable of B O Hickman local owner accounted for the daily race of maiden juveniles but her victory was of the fluky sort as Kitty Yansen which finished in second place swerved badly in the last sixteenth after threatening to take the lead and except for this probably would have won Myth drew away from Kitty Yansen after the first quarter but began tiring in the last eighth where Kitty Yansen gained on the leader with every stride Mollie Dear Continued on twentieth page SOUTH WIND WINNER Continued from first page which was close to the leaders
