AURORA SEA OF MUD Continuous Heavy Rains Leave Track in Bad Condition Racing Marred by Horses Falling Fallingin in Two Races Lindbergh LindberghPurse Purse to Sureshot AURORA 111 May 24 Racing at Exposi ¬ tion park this afternoon was conducted under under most unfavorable conditions for pre ¬ vious to post time for the first race and all during the first three races drizzling rain fell Heavy rain during the night coupled with more rain at the course today converted the racing strip into a veritable sea of mud and only the sturdier type of thoroughbreds negotiated the going with any degree of success The rain finally abaited about time for the fourth race but dark clouds hovered overhead for the re ¬ mainder of the afternoon afternoonAn An added incident with attendant excite ¬ ment occurred when a nasty fall resulted during the running of the principal attraction offered by the Exposition Park Jockey Club namely the Lindbergh Purse a condition affair for threeyearolds and over at three quarters which came fifth on the card The Lindbergh Purse was won by the Mira Monte Stock Farms threeyearold colt Sureshot The colt raced in the van of his opponents for the entire threequarters and came to the finish a handy winner over J J Coughlins Fannie May while Mrs L M Holmes All Baba annexed the minor portion of the purse pursePAY PAY GOOD DIVIDENDS DIVIDENDSAll All of the three placed ones were out ¬ siders in the wagering and their per ¬ formances constituted a triple surprise when they returned their respective backers hand ¬ some dividends for their support The B Creech entry of Glenister II and Book ¬ binder ruled favorite in the race Both fin ¬ ished unplaced when Glenister II which proved the only serious contender of the pair was apparently bothered by the fall which occurred during the back stretch rac ¬ ing As the field was nearing the pole completing the first quarter of the distance Gad was racing prominently in third posi ¬ tion and was on the inside and free of inter ¬ ference of any nature She seemingly stepped in a hole and suddenly fell heavily Glenister II and Flag of Truce had to be taken up slightly to avoitl a collision with her Billy Baughns rider tailed to see the prostrate mare and his mount collided with her and also was thrown Maiden twoyearolds had their inning in the third race and a limit field paraded to the post under claiming conditions at five eighths of a mile J C Mi lams Madam Emelie a bay filly by Huon Julia N graduated into the winning class by virtue of her success over the Nevada Stock Farms Honeyfish the filly winning by a margin of a length in a driving finish Honeyfish and Madam Emelie dominated the running of the race from the start Kischief Macher was the one to take third place Madam Emelie was the favorite the first to score during the afternoon afternoonJONES JONES STOCK FAIUI FAIUIA A bulky band of ordinary horses comprised the field in the introductory dash of three quarters and another purse was added to the credit of the Jones Stock Farm when the recent graduate from the maiden ranks Elizabeth Seth came back strongly with another good performance and scored handily from eleven others It was Elizabeth Seths second straight victory W P Games Realist the favored one succeeded in taking down second place getting up in the final stages to outgame the fast tiring Marvel Dolores The latter filly was a close up factor from the start and saved much ground racing on the inside but began tiring in the stretch and was doing her best at the end to save third place placeMrs Mrs J H Buschers Joe Junior furnished an outstanding surprise when he sprinted to an easy victory over Seths Premium Jessie Belle and nine other starters in the following race a dash of five and onehalf furlongs The running of the race marked the down ¬ fall of another favorite as B Creechs Tor ¬ mentor heavily backed was unplaced There was also considerable support for Dolly Bay Both first and second choices failed to show anything to warrant the confidence placed in them and finished far back Lieutenant Seth and Jessie Belle led the others for the first half mile where Joe Junior after hav ¬ ing raced on even terms with them at that point took the lead and won as his rider pleased and apirtxrently with speed in reserve reserveThere There was a paucity of starters for the one mile and a sixteenth race which was fourth on the card and but six started A stirring finish resulted with Swoop Billy Witt and The Roll Gall fighting it out most of the journey J W Lewis Swoop ridden by J Uollero ultimately won by a margin of a length from T Flippens Billy Witt at the termination of a hard stretch struggle in the last threesixteenths Nugent Brothers Open Continued on twentieth page
