Choice TORONTO OnL June 3 Ever More rac ¬ ing for the first time in the colors of her new owners the Seagram Stable accounted for the Kings Birthday Handicap at Thorncliffe Park today It was the feature race of the holiday program and brought out a good field of Canadianbreds Ever More was ridden by H Thomas and forced a fast pace until straightened out in the stretch where she forged to the front and in a driving finish outstayed Ncalon Kay by a neck neckThere There were eight starters and Ever More and Beau of the West were coupled as the Seagram entry They were heavily sup ¬ ported and went to the post well backed The race was a twohorse affair Ever More and Nealon Kay racing like a team from start to finish Hoi Polloi was third beaten a length and a half for second place Beau of the West was never a factor and wound up in fifth place placeConditions Conditions were ideal for outdoor sport and an immense gathering turned out to wit ¬ ness the sport Close contests resulted and a majority of the races were won by favor ¬ ites itesEloise Eloise racing for E 13 McLean the Wash ¬ ington publisher was responsible for a hard jolt to form players in the initial fiveeighths dash that attracted eleven twoyearolds to the barrier Reigh Olga received the bulk of support but the best he could do was to account for the place portion of the purse beaten by a length by Eloise and just a head to the good of Milaria Lucie Ann finished fourth and well lapped on her rivals Eloise found clear sailing from the start raced Burstone into defeat and under stout pres ¬ sure held to her task gamely to gather the large part of the spoils spoilsPROHIBITIVE PROHIBITIVE CHOICE WINS WINSJ J C Fletchers good Canadianbred filly Dushka held at prohibitive odds for the four and a half furlongs dash made good for her admirers and incidentally she re ¬ turned the smallest dividend that has been hung up during the present meeting paying slightly better than thirty cents to each dollar invested After racing in the van of her opponents from the start although passed momentarily rounding the turn the winner came away into a good lead during the stretch run and crossed the finishing line with a twolength advantage over Cedar Crest which in turn just managed to beat Rippling by a head for second place placeDuring During the running of the contest an almost serious accident occurred when Auto Da Fe with jockey Fishman riding bolted to the outside fence at the stretch turn while racing into the lead and his rider was fortu ¬ nate to escape serious injury Auto Da Fe raced on down past the grandstand and it was noticeable that his saddle had slipped off and this may have been one of the reasons for his bolting boltingFourteen Fourteen mediocre platers supplied the en ¬ tertainment in the third race of the afternoon a threequarters sprint and the winner came from unexpected quarters when Barrow after attempting to run off before reaching the starting point began fastest of all on leaving the barrier and dominating the running throughout continued with good energy when placed to punishment during the final eighth and just managed to stay a nose in front of Gold Bells with George J the same margin back of the pair Hanna Rae was lapped with them the same dis ¬ tance back This was the closest decision of any event decided during the current session and none but the placing judges were in a position from which to decide the finish The place and show horses were grouped in the field betting bettingDR DR OMARA DISAPPOINTS DISAPPOINTSDr Dr OMara installed the choice for the mile and sixteenth fourth race failed his backers when the best he could do was to finish sec ¬ ond to Donetta with Tall Grass accounting for the minor end of the purse Donetta in her last appearance under colors was beaten pff in cheaper company but today she showed extreme speed from the start and opening up a long lead in the first threequarters was never in danger of defeat and at the end had a length and a half margin over the favorite favoriteGraylings Graylings Lady dropped into a cheap claiming race made good for players of form when she romped to an easy victory in the sixth race that brought nine platers of ordinary caliber to the barrier for the mile and an eighth contest Installed the choice Graylings Lady with her light weight raced into the lead at once and shak ¬ ing off early contention from ChefdOeuvre drew away into a long lead in the last quar ¬ ter to win with much in reserve and five lengths to the good of Fornovo which found no end of trouble in the early racing after being taken back at the start He finished steadily however after his early interfer ance but was unable to menace the winner winnerJerry Jerry Gorman will load his horses on an express car Saturday night and ship them to Ottawa OttawaT T J Donohue leaves for Ottawa Sunday night The division of the W J Salmon stable racing here will leave In the same car
