♦ $ Form Organization Called The Chicago Riding Club Sales $ # LEXINGTON, Ky., May 15.— At the suggestion of Otto W. Lehmann, the well-known Chicago sportsman and capitalist, president of the American National Jockey Club, and with his backing and encouragement, the Chicago Riding Club Sales has been organized, according to an announcement made here today. John S. Wallace, for many years associated with racing, as breeeder, owner, trainer, official and as manager of sales, has been selected as general manager of the new organization. Edwin IC Thomas, of Paris, Ky., one of the younger group of thoroughbred horse breeders in central Kentucky, is assistant manager. James W. Thompson, also of Paris, son of Honorable James H. Thompson, widely-known farmer and man of affairs in Kentucky, is to be auctioneer. Mr. Thompson has had several years of experience in selling tobacco in Kentucky and the Carolinas and in selling livestock in his native state. He is interested in thoroughbreds and is well acquainted with the various families. The first sale is to be held at the Chicago Riding Club on Friday, September li. Only yearlings will be catalogued for this initial sale and, in speaking of the subject today, Mr. Wallace said : "We would impress upon breeders and prospective consigners that this is to be a sale of high-grade yearlings. They must be first-class, both as to individuality and bloodlines, otherwise they will not be accepted. Mr. Lehmann has emphasized the fact that there are many prospective buyers in Chicago who are very discriminate and require the best No second or third rate yearlings are wanted and none such accepted. We will not want more than seventy-five horses for the first sale. "We would ask both sellers and buyers to get out of mind any idea that the Chicago Riding Club Sales will be in any degree similar to sales previously held at the Chicago Stock Yards. The fact that these sales are to be held at the Chicago Riding Club is sufficient guarantee of the superiority of the surroundings and appointments and of the clientele. And the buying public will have our guaraniee backed by that of Mr. Lehmann that the offerings will be strictly first-class." -
