CHICA1TE LEFT AT POST — ■ Poor Start Mars Samovar Handicap at Aqueduct Course. * Mrs. FJmer Trucnians Searcher Wins, with Friar Cliff Second and Sun Broom Third— 31 a i l a Repeals. » NEW YORK, N. Y., June 14.— There was something of a black eye for the stall gates yesterday when Mrs. Graham Fair Vander-J i 1 1 s Chicatie. looked upon as one of the most likely winners of the afternoon, was left at the post It was doubly unfortunate when it came about in the Samovar Handicap, a seven-eighths affair, that held the feature position on the program. This went to Mrs. Elmer Truemans Searcher, one that caused no end of trouble and was finally sent away from an outside position, instead of from his stall. He led home Friar Cliff, from the Dorwood Stable. and the Sagamore Stables Sun Broom was third. Sun Broom was the one to force the early pace, but Friar Cliff was never far back and in the stretch wore down the son of Sun Briar. In the meantime Searcher, after leaving the post badly, had made up a world of ground and had reached third place. He easily disposed of the tired Sun Broom and was soon close after Friar Cliff, which was racing next to the inner rail. Stride by stride he drew up on Friar Cliff to dispose of him and he was hardly past when he swerved sharply to the raiL Robertson took Friar Cliff up as the winner came over and tried vainly to catch him in the run home, but Searcher was safely past the line a length and a half to the good and Friar Cliff beat, the tired Sun Broom a like distance and Marine, under a long drive, was just a head further back. The second race was a mile condition affair, and Live Oak, from the Rosedale Stable, proved best when he forced the pace all the way to lead home Mrs. Graham Fair Vanderbilts War Flier, with Valorous, from the Greentree Stable, saving third from J. Fred Adams Glenwild. There was a long delay at the post, for which War Flier and Whack were chiefly to blame when they would not stand quietly in the stalls. The start was a good one and Live Oak at once went into the command, with Valorous racing at his tail and War Flier not far back of the Greentree horse. This trio dominated all the running, but there never was a time when Burke had to surrender his lead with Live Oak. War Flier raced closely after the winner, while Ellis had Valorous on the inner rail all the way and at the top of the stretch he tried desperately to drive him through on the inside, but the son of Pennant was not good enough and he could not improve his position. In the last furlong Fields was driving War Flier furiously, but Live Oak held to his lead with little trouble and rt the end he was still a length and a half clear, while Wnr Flier had led Valorous home by a like distance. Glenwild had raced all the way and he readiy held the others safe. George W. Lofts Mabla, the two-year-old daughter of On Watch and Sox. won her fourth consecutive race when she had no trouble leading home the fillies that opposed her in the four and a half furlongs race. Capt. P. M. Walkers Brown Sinner races to second place and B. S. Cutlers Vigilia saved third from the Middleburg Stables Marette, There was not much to the running, for Mabla at once went into a safe lead and Harvey took her over to an inside pos-tion and she just romped along in front all the way. At the end Mablas winning marcin was five lengths, while Brown Sinner had beaten Vigilia a length for second place. Nineteen maiden juveniles started in the fifth race and it uncovered rather a good colt in William Ziegler, Jr.s Sumair. a son of Kwang-Su and Royal Mirrth. a colt that cost 112,000 at the Saratoga sales last August. Sumair was good enough to dash away into a long lead in the early stages and Mack Garner took no chances and hustled him along to have him winner by a goodly margin. Desert Light, from Mr. Vanderbilts Fair Stable, raced to second place, while BiUy Blake, racing for the Meadow Farms Stable, was third. At the end of the program there was a one mile race under claiming conditions that brought out eleven fairly good campaigners. It was a race" that was marked by a great de:.l of bumping and crowding in which Fola-mile suffered considerably, and in the stretch Negopoli came through to be the winner. Jn making his move he shut off Sanford badly a.d at the time Jims Bob, Fortunes Favorite and Ra was also cose up. At the end it was Ra that took second place, with Fortunes Favorite beating Folamile for third place.
