RAISE HAWTHORNE PURSES Chicago Business Mens Racing Association to Distribute Over 2,000 Daily. With a view to holding the best class of horses in the West during August, the Chicago Business Mens Racing Association has decided to increase the purse offering at Hawthorne over last year. At a meeting ot" the board of directors held yesterday the general manager was authorized to announce that during the meeting commencing August 2, a daily average of ,900, exclusive of the stakes, would be offered, and the average per purse, including the stakes, would run over ,700. or over 2,000 per day. The purses will be divided as follows: Two of ,200 each, two of ,300 each, one of ,400, one of ,500, and a daily handicap of ,000. On days that stakes are run. the feature will take the place of the ,000 handicap. The stakes which close July 13 include the Hawthorne Handicap, 5,000 added, the Chicago Juvenile, 0,000 added, the Fort Dearborn, 0,000 added, and the Windy City and Great Lakes Handicaps of ,000 each. This makes a grand total of 33,100 that will be offered during the summer meeting of nineteen days. The decision of the Ilancocas, Coe, Kilmer and other eastern stables to keep a division in Chicago during the summer, will add considerable interest to the local meeting. The Hawthorne Handicap has been set for the first week of the meeting so as not to conflict with any of the big features at Saratoga, and it is thought that this will induee a number of the eastern establishments which do not race here to enter and ship horses for the race. The Hawthorne management will also be on the lookout for any special features or specials that might develop during its meeting. |
