FIRE AT JEFFERSON PARK War Hawk, Happy Bob and Frances Rock Destroyed. J. Keller Loses His Stable Equipment Shipment of Horses to Northern Points Continues. NEW ORLEANS, La., April 4. Three horses, the property of A. Gaal and J. Bishop, were burned to death in a fire early Thursday night at Jefferson Park. The horses destroyed were War Hawk and Happy Bob. Bishops loss, in addition to stable tack, was Frances Rock. Gaal declined to say. whether or not his horses were covered by insurance. Conflicting reports as to the whereabouts of James Mulligan, an exercise boy in the employ of J. Bishop, were circulated. Mulligan, according to one report, lost his life in the fire trying to rescue the horses, while another held that he had departed for a northern racing point last Monday. Later it was learned that Mulligan is in Chicago. The blaze started in barn number 8. The horses of J. Keller, which were quartered nearby, were rescued. They were Bunthorne and Finland. Keller lost practically all of his stable equipment. R. S. Eddy, Jr., general manager of Jefferson Park, stated that the barn was insured for ,000, but it would be impossible to replace the structure for the same figure. Mr. Eddy was grateful to the fire-fighters for their good work in preventing the blaze from spreading to other barns. Except for the uncertainty over Mulligan, no one was injured in the fire. There was much activity on the part of horsemen who are making preparations for shipping their stables north. R. Nicholas transferred Glemence. Mysterious and Merida to New York early Friday, and is shipping Reflector, Patsy Jane and Creole Girl to his Big Horn, Wyo., ranch next Monday. The latter two will be bred to Sir Luke. J. J. Flaherty will move on to Aurora next week with Tiger Flowers and Milton Moore, while Al Luzader is shipping Louisville Lou, Boys Preferred, Miss Way, Beekeeper and Greenback to Douglas Park Monday. The M. J. Beauchamp pair, Omnia and Top Cloud, are scheduled to go to Aurora early next week and J. Cardinal is shipping Talented Prince to the same course. Ball Gee and Curtain Call are destined for Fairmount Park. W. L. Johnson also shipped to1 Fairmount, the C. Bunte horses going in the same car. J. J. Felix and J. Bainton are shipping to Aurora. The six horses that J. B. Partridge left here with A. Brown are to be shipped to the same course. C. C. Hastings acquired Harpoon by private purchase and had the gelding fired for leg trouble. H. C. Riddle transfers the horses in his care to Jamaica Saturday, while the E. R. Bradley horses and those owned by H. C. Hatch are booked to depart Sunday morning. J. McKeon, who leased a number of horses for winter racing from Payne and West, Covington, Ky., sportsmen, yesterday disposed of Golden Cloud to A. Bourdeaux, who shipped his string to Beulah Park.
