CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES LOUISVILLE Ky May 17 17John John F Schorr is especially anxious to have E B McLeans Toro account for next Saturdays renewal of the Grainger Memorial Handicap Last year Toro defeated Clyde Van Dusen a week after the latter scored in the Kentucky Derby to register the second win for the McLean colors in the race first triumphant in 1924 when Modest scored If Toro captures the impending renewal he will duplicate the feat of King Nadi which won in 1925 and again in 1926 1926No No owner has scored a triple in the race which from 1913 to 1923 was called the Ken ¬ tucky Handicap Incidentally the colors of John W Schorr father of the McLean Stable trainer were in front in the 1914 and 1916 runnings of the stake and R L Bakers King Gorin while failing to win in consecutive years was the first to go down as a double winner of the fixture His first win came in 1917 and the last in 1920 Edward Knebelkamp leaves Monday for Kansas City where he will again serve as racing secretary during the Riverside Park meeting opening May 29 29Entry Entry blanks for the 15000 added Thistle Down Derby have been received here and are being distributed by Sidney Brown who will serve as one of the officials during the Cleveland meeting The horses of Charles Bidwill in charge of Roy Slomer leave here a week hence for Washington Park Mr Bidwill secretary of the Illinois Turf Association has been here the past week but is returning to Chicago after the Derby After the running of the Grainger Memorial Handicap trainer R T Watts will ship the Deriemark horses to Washington Park Arnold Hanger part owner of the Warm Stable motored from Richmond Kentucky in his palatial automobile which includes sleep1 ing accommodations to witness The Xut con ¬ test the Shady Brook Farm Handicap and also remain for the Derby Jockey D Dubois left tonight for air mount Park where he hopes to affiliate with one of the larger stables stablesC C II Knebelkamp acting for himself and Richard Morris today purchased the two yearold Spanish 1lay for H D Simpson Spanish Play a son of Spanish Prince II and Anna Hortopj won on the occasion of his first start here several days ago A S Lewis is training for W F TTaus man local horseman the twoyearold Ridge view a daughter of Prince of Uinbria1 Uinbria1andi andi
