t Renew Rich Fairmount Derb Gallant Knight and Ned O Outstanding Starters in 15000 Added Race at Collinsville Course Eight Colts and Geldings and Two Fillies Entered Fair Weather Predicted Management Expects Record Attendance COLLINSVILLE 111 May 23 The Fairmount Derby 15000 added outstanding race of the meeting will be renewal jui the fifth time tomorrow with one of the most evenly matched fields in the history of the race striving for the gold and glory that will fall to the winner Eight colts and geldings and two fillies have been named for the race and their meeting over the one mile and a quarter is expected to result in one of the most closely contested races witnessed here since the fixture was inaugurated On the eve of the big race skies were overcast with intermittent showers falling but the track remained good and only the continuance of rain will change the footing from its present state Weather predictions of fair weather held promise of a perfect setting for the running of the attractive and important fixture and much interest was manifested by the big throng on hand to witness the race Reports from hotels reveal every possible space has been reserved and there is every indication that the attendance this year will outnumber any gathering that has witnessed the previous runnings of the Fairmount Derby DerbyWhile While each scheduled starter will have their following the Audley Farms Gallant Knight George V Foremans Ned O J N Camdens Sydney George McGollins Thistle Ann and W H Hoffmans Longus have the greater number of admirers But this array of stars will have to defeat J A Bests Reveille Boy which gave such a good account of himself in his recent race here By Prod ¬ uct the good filly that races for J G Demarest might prove a serious contender as her races with older horses of the handicap division have stamped her far above the ordinary class classThe The performances of Gallant Knight and Ned O in the recent Kentucky Derby give them the call in favoritism but if history repeats itself an outsider may be the winner winnerOnly Only three of the scheduled starters will carry less than 118 pounds they being Thistle Ann and By Product who receive the sex allowance which makes their impost 113 pounds Skibo a maiden wiir carry 114 pounds poundsThe The Fairmount Derby had its inaugural in 192G when Joseph E Wideners Haste under the guidance of Earl Sande led home Col E R Bradleys entry of Bagenbaggage and Boot to Boot which finished second and third respectively Haste established a rec ¬ ord of 2 03 for the one mile and a quarter which still stands standsA A year later Colonel Bradley had the pleas ¬ ure of witnessing his Buddy Bauer carry the famous green and white colors to victory over H P Whitneys Whiskery and J E Wideners Osmand which failed in his en ¬ deavor to win the race for his owner a sec ¬ ond time In 1928 Leo J Marks Misstep carried off the coveted prize when he con ¬ quered E B McLeans Toro and Jack Hig gins which triumphed in the Louisiana Derby of that year yearJ J J Coughlins Karl Eitel won the prize in 1929 when he scored over George Col ¬ lins Thistle Fyrn and Minotaur Naishapur failed dismally in this race after being backed to the exclusion of the others being quoted at thirtyeight cents to a dollar in the specu ¬ lation
