down for decision on the program of the Westchester Racing Association at Belmont Park today The best of the over ¬ night offerings saw Martin Maddens Moine winner of a handicap when he led home Mrs V M Duncans Clean Play with James Butlers Stormy Dawn finishing third It was unfortunate that in this Mrs Graham Fair Vanderbilts Chicatie rated asacbn tender was left standing at the post postThe The weather was seasonable after the siege of low temperature of last week and the track was fast The crowd was large and there was no lack of interest interestNine Nine started in the handicap that fell to Moine which was equipped with blinkers a change from his previous race There was some slight delay and as the barrier went up thicatie plainly was not ready and refused to start with the others othersClean Clean Play raced away in the lead and with a speed that enabled Walls to take him to the inner rail where he raced throughout Hornpipe raced alongside and Stormy Dawn was at his heels and under slight restraint Sun Shadow followed closely while Moine was well back backClean Clean Play held resolutely to his lead around the turn and into the stretch and Hornpipe was also going well but Workman by that time had roused Stormy Dawn and the Butler fouryearold moved up slightly Moine was following him when the move was made but both were forced to a drive so stubbornly did Clean Pny hold to the lead leadHornpipe Hornpipe was through in the final furlong and Stormy Dawn himself tired rather badly Then it was that Lyons made his winning challenge with Moine Clean Play fought along to the last stride but Moine was too good for him and was first by a neck Mrs Duncans sprinter had outstayed Stormy Dawn to save second place by two lengths and Macedoii finished at the heels of the Butler hope hopeOPEXER OPEXER TO 2fOVEXA 2fOVEXANovena Novena racing for the first time under the silks of Mrs M Shea was winner of the opening five furlongs dash a claiming affair for the juveniles Willie Shea who recently claimed the filly for his wife for 5000 watched the running from a grandstand box with his right arm in a sling having broken j his wrist in an automobile accident while on the way to the track trackNoVena NoVena dominated most of the running and was winner by a length and a half while W H Travers Kensington finishing with good courage raced to second place beating the Belair Stud Stables Ronald Grey for that part of the award Wee Drop was well up in the running for a time but she weakened badly to finish far back while Ronald Grey was always in the front division and only surrendered to Kensington when well inside the final sixteenth sixteenthA A W Wentzels Host under a good ride by Robertson was winner of the third race beating Nicotine which raced for H C Phipps and Flaming the Wheatley Stable starter and coupled as an entry Willis Sharpe Kilmers Sun Falcon was fourth with j Electa from the Middleburg Stable last of j the five that went to the post postFrom From a good start in which Electa as usual was slow to begin Flaming was first to show the way but he soon was joined by Sun Falcon and it was the Kilmer threeyear old that continued to show the way until the stretch was reached The son of Sun Briar was under restraint as he showed the way and the pace was slow slowAs As the stretch was approached the pace quickened and there was a closing up back of Sun Falcon There it was that Robertson sent Host Up to the leader and at the same time Nicotine and Flaming moved up It was a battle through the final furlong and Robertson plainly outrode both Rose and Hebert to have Host over the line winner by a neck Nicotine was a neck before her stablemate and the tired Sun Falcon was an j other length back Electa after her slow beginning was never able to catch the others and was another five lengths back backPOLYGAMOUS POLYGAMOUS BAD KACE KACEDunsany Dunsany from the stable of Mr Pem ¬ broke and racing in his best form was winner of the second race when he led home Quickstep from the Newtondale Stable with Edward R Bradleys Buckeye Poet saving third from Discolored The big surprise of this race was Polygamous the son of Stefan the Great from the G if ford A Cochran stable This fellow had no speed and his performance was pounds below his recent form He was in close quarters for a con ¬ siderable part of the race but when op ¬ portunity offered he was not able to improve his position positionHacky Hacky H was the one to set the early pace and Quickstep raced closely after him with Royal Light headin the others in the early stages Dunsany was not far back and holding his place while Polyg ¬ amous in rather a close press of the others continued to drop back until at the end he had only beaten one horse Enduring EnduringIt It was in the stretch that Dunsany charg ¬ ing up on the outside disposed of the tir ¬ ing Hacky H and in the final quarter drew away rather easily to be past the finish winner by three lengths Quickstep stuck it out to save second from Buckeye Poet by two lengths and the Bradley colt had gained some ground to beat Discolored which was also going well at the end The best finish of the day came in the fifth race Four horses swept past the line so closely lapped that it was almost impos ¬ sible to split them out When the num ¬ bers were displayed the race was awarded to Blue Law from the Greentree Stable with E R Bradleys Bar Hunter second Gifford A Cochrans Repentance third and Walter J Salmons Mad Career fourth This chalked up a double for Sonny Workman for he had the mount on Blue Law and it was only by a powerful finish that he craned the deci sion for the son of St Germainc Repent ¬ ance was the one to set the ice but Bar Hunter was right witli him anil they were
