SONNELLI WINS RWERDALE Defeats Sunvir Scared o Nothin in Thbrncliffe Feature Others Interfered With Somewhat When WhenWinner Winner Causes Crowding Favorites FavoritesLose Lose on Next to Final Bay TORONTO Ont June 2 The Thorncliffe Breeders and Racing Association offered the Riverdale Purse a dash of seven furlongs as the particular attraction for the semi ¬ final day of the spring term of racing at the Leaside course Monday afternoon For this a field of eight horses were seen in silks and keen interest was manifested by an enthusiastic gathering for the race Son nelli from the Sewickley Stable was the winner and it was his second triumph of the lojcal session Sunvir another that has shown winning form over this track raced into second place being defeated by a length while third went to E P Summerfields Scared o Nothing R H News Troutlet and four others ran ranMuch Much crowding took place and it was the winner that was chiefly to blame Son nelli was away in good fashion the field be ¬ ing in good alignment but Maiben in his desire to get Sonnelli to the front allowed his mount to come over sharply before the turn into the back stretch was reached and it was there that Black Cloud and Sunvir were almost thrown The others with the exception of Scared o Nothing and Troutlet suffered somewhat from this mis ¬ hap hapSonelli Sonelli when straightened into the long back stretch opened up an apparently win ¬ ning lead and he just coasted along for the rest of the trip to reach the end of the route well in hand Sunvir staged a bold rush through the final stages after overcoming his early misfortune and he closed within a length of the victor The margin might have been a larger one had Maiben ridden his mount out Scared o Nothing was beaten two lengths for the place award and in turn was a length in advance of Troutlet which just outstayed the rush of Black Cloud which went to the post equal choice with the Sewickley starter starterThe The remaining races resulted in some good entertainment Summer weather brought out another smart gathering gatheringMental Mental carrying the silks of H G Bedwell broke out of the maiden ranks when he easily proved the master of nine other maid ¬ ens that opposed him in the five furlongs of the first event Mrs J P Mayberrys Gobi met defeat by four lengths and third went to Mrs A Brents Ike Mann when he led O Yzquerdos At Random for that portion of the purse Mental away in good fashion drew into a five lengths lead at the final furlong and was in hand in the closing stages stagesInexperienced Inexperienced riders were seen astride the dozen starters of ordinary grade that gath ¬ ered for the seven furlongs test that was the second offering and a mild surprise took place when C S Mitchells Milestone under the handling of C McDonald was winner in a driving finish by a scant nose from James Arthurs Guarany Third fell to the lot of J Bosleys Tony the Clown with Brave Knight leading the others othersThe The third race which saw si field of nine under silks resulted in a driving finish and the winner came from unexpected quarters when Dolly Seth from the E H Von Roenn Stable led the others throughout to be the winner over R Pendings Companion by a length while a like distance further back before Justa Flapper and the others came Handiworker from the Harber Stable StableThe The running of the fourth race for the better grade sprinters of the claiming di ¬ vision resulted in a double being scored by the H G Bedwell stable when Red Briar raced to an impressive triumph reaching the end five lengths before Brother Rank from the H C Hatch stable Third place went to Wacket which raced for J J Burns BurnsA A G Lamantias Granite Rock finally broke into the winning column when he proved best of a dozen homebreds that raced for honors in the sixth for which Fair Oil was the most in demand Evermore from the Mount Royal Stable raced into second place meeting defeat by a little more than a length Third was awarded to Willingdon when he beat Fair Oil by a half length for third place Granite Rock racing in fifth place early raced under restraint back of the pace of Fair Oil ard Sphere of Beauty until entering into the stretch wore his rivals down gradually to gain command in the final furlong and under a mild drive thereafter withstood Evermore The latter held a three lengths margin over Willingdon which fin ¬ ished on the outside with the others strung out
