SURPRISE AT THISTLE DOWN Taddywawa Accounts for Hotel Hollenden Cup Handicap Business Outruns Kentucky Babe in Stretch to Win Purse in Fifth Race Good Weather CLEVELAND Ohio June 3 Taddywawa provided somewhat of a surprise when she carried the Jones Stock Farm colors to vic ¬ tory in the Hotel Hollenden Cup Handicap the fourth and feature offering at Thistle ¬ down Park this afternoon Gold Step raced into second place in the stretch with Sydney a close third Jack Howe and High Score from which much was expected both failed dismally after reaching the stretch following a display of early speed speedTaddywawa Taddywawa raced within striking distance of the leaders High Score and Jack Howe to the stretch then went into the lead and drew away as if easily the best Gold Step made his move on the turn for home moving up into second place but at the end was doing his best to withstand the final challenge of Sydney The latter was worked out after the finish in preparation for the Cleveland Derby to be run Saturday going one mile in 139 and the mile and an eighth in 154 easing up upIdeal Ideal conditions once more prevailed The weather could not have been improved ppon the track was at its best and the attendance excellent for the midweek day Spirited racing featured by numerous close finishes marked the afternoons entertainment entertainmentFinishing Finishing with good courage on the turn for home Business overhauled Kentucky Babe and drew away into arn easy lead in the final furlong in the fifth race Finnic prominent in the early stages came again in the stretch and rather handily secured second place from Kentucky Babe This trio domin ¬ ated the race throughout throughoutTaking Taking command after making the far turn Ballot Girl drew away in the stretch to capture the sixth race with ridiculous ease Kublai Khan came fast in the last quarter to secure the second portion of the purse while My Word got up in time to be third Lafayette and Antiquarian were early cbn tenders but tired rapidly after the stretch was reached as did Elfeldee ElfeldeeCousin Cousin Jo a new arrival from Kentucky took the measure of the eastern youngster Miss Dinwiddie in the initial dash with unexpected ease C Nuckols filly came strongly from third position entering the stretch disposed of Cloimar and Miss Din ¬ widdie in turn then drew into an easy lead in the last sixteenth Miss Dinwiddie led until midway of the stretch but was no match for the winner during the final test Cloimar bore out at the turn for home but 1 held the others safe
