DOUBLE HEART began fast but was outrun in the first eighth and, taken under light restraint until straightened out in the stretch, disposed of WAR SAINT after a mild drive and held this lead safe to the end. JACK CAMPBELL, hard urged throughout, improved his position steadily and wore down WAR SAINT in the final strides. WAR SAINT began well and, sent to the front under strong pressure, responded gamely in the stretch, but tired in the final sixteenth. FERVID, racing forwardly in the early stages,-tired in the closing eighth as if short. TIGER PRINCE was in close quarters for three-eighths and could not , improev his position when clear. BACCIOCCO, away forwardly, set a fast pace under light restraint for half a mile and, increasing his lead in the final three-sixteenths under mild pressure, was not menaced. TOMBEREAU, hustled into contention from a slow start, continued resolutely and held KNOWLTON safe in the stretch. The latter behaved well at the barrier, improved his position steadily on the turn, then tired, but held BLACK DOVE safe. The latter, slow to get going, closed a real big gap. BATTY finished resolutely after racing wide all the way. PARNELL BOUND, saved ground, but tired the final quarter. ROYAL RUFFIAN, outpaced for half a mile, began moving up on the outside in the final three-sixteenths, disposed of LULLABY II., but could not overhaul the winner. LULLABY II. took command soon after the start and, rated in front on the turn, drew clear entering the stretch, then tired in the stretch. LAST ATTEMPT, slow to get going, gained steadily on the outside after the first quarter mile and tired under punishment. SANSARICA, hard urged throughout, finished resolutely. CHATFORD, unruly at the post, began fast from outside the machine and, responding gamely under pressure, shook off PETO at the eighth post and held STREET SINGER safe. The latter, quickest to get going, dropped out of it on the turn, then closed resolutely. THAIS, pocketed for about half a mile, came through on the inside entering the stretch and outlasted PETO. BAY ANGON, a contender throughout, finished gamely under punishment, wore down REGULA BADDUN, but did not threaten the winner. REGULA BADDUN, restrained while racing forwardly in the early stages, tired in the final eighth, as if short. THURSDAY raced on his own courage throughout. GAY BIRD took the lead on the first turn, was taken in hand and indulged SCARLET BRIGADE with a short lead in the run down the back stretch, then drew clear, but his rider became overconfident and almost lost the race. GARLIC, under extreme pressure from the start, went around the leaders in the stretch, but swerved to the inside in the stretch and just failed to overhaul the winner. MONTANARO, close up early, easily shook off SKRIP. The latter, ridden wide throughout, was not persevered with in the stretch.
