TOREALONG, away slowly, began improving his position on the outside after the first quarter mile on the outside of the leaders while losing much ground and, continuing gamely in the stretch, wore down the leaders and won going away. SANSARICA, showing the most early speed, disposed of COIFFEUR and WESTYS STAR early and, withstanding repeated-challenges from LAST ATTEMPT on the far turn, outlasted him in the. final drive. LAST ATTEMPT went into contention on the back stretch and, taken back under light restraint, followed the leader closely, then tired under pressure. IRON CZAR could not get up. FAIR BILLOWS assumed command at the start and, rated in front under restraint, opened up a winning lead entering the stretch under pressure, then won with speed to spare. DON TASKER, slow to get going and forced to race on the extreme outside, gradually improved his position and shook off WESTYS FOX in the stretch. The latter improved his position with a rush on the far turn, then tired in the stretch. BILL SOUTHAM tired as if short in the closing eighth. PRINCE DALE, on the inside from the start, was repeatedly blocked and forced to pull up. LAPIDARY finished well. Overweight Lapidary, 1 pound. fgOfkQEr FOURTH RACE 3-4 Mile. SINGLE STAR, in close quarters for three-eighths and under light restraint, came through on the inside entering the stretch and, drawing clear rapidly, was kept under strong pressure to hold her advantage. MEMORIES DEAR began fast, showed good early speed, but tried to bear out entering the stretch. PRIORESS was on the outside on the stretch turn and, but for MEMORIES DEAR bearing out, might have been closer up. HAZEL GUMBERTS closed fast and was wearing down the leaders. MERIDIAN QUEEN, racing forwardly in the early stages but in close quarters on the inside, went around THE HEATHEN in the stretch and, racing the latter into defeat, drew out in the last sixteenth and held JOHN F. in the drive. JOHN F., rated behind the first half mile, responded gamely when called upon and, going to the outside entering the stretch, finished gamely, but could not overtake the winner. THE HEATHEN set a fast pace, saved ground throughout, then tired suddenly in the stretch. SUNFIRE, far back for three-eighths, improved his position on the inside, but was in close quarters at the sixteenth post, where he was taken up sharply. ALDERSHOT had no excuses. The latter, fractious at the post, began m full stride from the outside and forced a steady early pace and, shaking off WAR SAINT in the stretch, was unable to withstand the .challenge of the winner. CLEAN PLAY, close up throughout, responded gamely under punishment. WAR SAINT began fast, showed good speed, then tired. PORT HARLEM, repeatedly buffeted about, had little chance. SPANFAIR, pocketed in the first three-eighths and shuffled back when attempting to come through on the inside at the half-mile post, was steadied behind the leaders until entering the stretch, then went to the outside and, closing gamely, wore down DISCOBOLUS in the Final drive. The latter, on the outside and prominent throughout, raced MAKE SPEED into defeat on the turn and held on tenaciously when challenged. MAKE SPEED showed early speed, saved ground, but tired in the closing eighth. The others were outrun after the First half mile. Scratched 680033Prepare, 111; 68003 Herkimer, 110.
