AGUA DERBY TO BAHAMAS Surprise Winner Over Cabezo, Na-cho, Joe Flores and Durango Before Crowd of 12,000. AGUA CALIENTE, Mexico, March 7. Bahamas, home-bred son of Bon Homme Cov-J ering, was a handy winner of the ,000 added Agua Caliente Derby, which was decided at the beautiful Lower California track Sunday. Before a crowd of 12,000 the game three-year-old led all the way, to defeat Mrs. W. T. Andersons Cabezo by one length, while third money went to Walter Fenwicks Nacho, which has been running in claiming races. Joe Flores and Durango, both off poorly, were fourth and fifth, respectively. But five horses faced the barrier, John Bane being the withdrawal. Although the field was smaller, starter Cassidy had much trouble in lining them up due to the bad behavior of Durango and Cabezo. The start was delayed for nine minutes and when they finally began it was in a tangle. Joe Flores and Durango suffered most at the start. Joe Flores, which had been placed in an outer post position, cut directly to the inside and almost struck the rail which separates the chute from the main track, while Durango was also attempt ing to wheel. Bahamas and Cabezo. were clear of interference and rounded the first turn far in advance of the others, with the ultimate winner showing the way by a length. Bahamas, racing strongly under the guidance of jockey Longden, opened up a two lengths lead at the far turn and jockey Fischer, on Cabezo, began to urge his mount. Although Cabezo was racing strongly as they entered the stretch he could make little impression on Bahamas and the latter led to the end. Joe Flores race was far from his best effort and can be thrown out. He had little chance with the start and proved by making up considerable ground on the back stretch that he has a good turn of speed. Durango, de--spite the fact that he was off poorly, disappointed and was badly beaten at the end.
