The latter took the early lead, but tired at the firish. DU-KY DEVIL closed a gap. SUN GROS finish-.d garnclv on the outside. MISS BRILLIANT tired badly. EPONA and JUSTICE LOGAN were cut off early. TRINCHERA found an opening and, taking the early lead, set the pace to the stretch, was shaken up and drew away from LADFIELD, but was under mild pressure to hold BIG BEAU safe. The latter, racing gamely throughout, staged a strong finish and was gaining. LADFIELD saved ground on the stretch turn, but tired slightly. SILVERDALE opened up a long early lead, then tired in the stretch. SURF BOARD raced evenly and held HIGH PROOF safe. The latter could not keep up early, but finished fairly well. Won driving ; second and third the same. SIDNEY GRANT trailed the others for half the distance, then came fast and, getting through an opening on the stretch turn and taken to the outside of the leaders in the stretch, finished fast in the middle of the track and outlasted SPANISH PLAY. The latter followed PITTSBURGHER closely in the early stages, took a short lead in the last eighth, but was not good enough. DR. FREELAND remained close up from the start and held on well. PITTSBURGHER took the lead entering the back stretch, then tired in the last eighth. CANFLI raced gamely, but tired near the end. STREET SINGER was cut off on the far turn and lost all chance. PRINCE ATHELING dropped back after going half the distance. HILLSBOROUGH was in close quarters on the first turn and again on the far turn. LADY BROADCAST was never dangerous. ENGLEWOOD closed a gap in the last quarter. DODGSON came through on the inside, took command in the hack stretch, but quit badly thereafter. PETER PETER came fast after leaving the back stretch and, passing SCARLET BRIGADE, opened up a good lead and was slightly best at the end to hold TIGER FLOWERS safe. The latter, in close quarters on the back stretch and cut off on the far turn, came fast on the outside in the stretch. DIFFERENT met interference. SCARLET BRIGADE was rushed into the lead on the far turn and had little left at the finish. CRUSHED STONE and HAL RILEY were used up making the early pace. ZEVAR tired in the stretch. OPEN GO SHUT began from outside the gate.
