THE POINT, hard urged to take command soon after the start, opened up a winning lead near the stretch and held sway to the end. GERARD, under pressure throughout, was unable to menace the winner. JOHN BANE, crowded back soon afltr the start, came through in the final half mile and closed fast. ALTSHEIB raced forwardly and had no excuses. SEA KALE, slow to get settled in his stride, finished fast on the outside. MEDICINE BOW tired in the final drive. LEADGOLD lacked speed. The latter worked his way up steadily, came through on the inside of the leaders on the stretch turn and closed resolutely. PHAR CREST forced a good early pace and held on well.
