j EQUIPOISE MAY MEET j TWENTY GRAND IN j SPECIAL RAGE - - - - - - - - " NEW YORK, N. Y., Sept. 5 A special match race at one mile, to be run on Futurity day, the closing day of the meeting, seems probable with C. V. Whitneys Equipoise, the Greentree Stables Twenty Grand and J. P. Smiths Morf air as the participants. Equipoise, holder of the worlds mile record of 1:34, over a circular course, has returned to satisfactory condition, according to Fred Hopkins, and owner Whitney is willing to match him against any horse in the world at scale weight. This offer has been accepted by Smith, owner of Morfair. Twenty Grand will only start in the special event if his training continues satisfactory. His latest workout was a mile in 1:41, recorded Saturday, arid he is due for another trial Tuesday. Should he come up to first class condition before Futurity day, in the opinion of trainer Bill Brennan, Mrs. Payne Whitney, owner of the Greentree Stable, is expected to give her consent to the match. Twenty Grand and Equipoise are four-year-olds and their weights would be 126 pounds, while Morfair, a three-year-old, would be asked to carry 119 pounds.
