i . : . , , ; . NOAHS PRIDE WINS HANDICAP Is Victorious Over Three-Time Winner, Sobieha, at Fairmount. Sari Stable Horse Is Ridden by Veteran Joe Rodriguez Stella F. Repeats as Business Finishes Unplaced in Fourth. COLLINSVILLE, 111., Sept. 30. Noahs Pride carried the colors of R. Dohles locally owned Sari Stable to a popular victory in accounting for the three-quarters of a mile Autumn Handicap that served as the fifth and feature attraction at the Fairmount Park -course this afternoon. Mrs. Edward McCuans Sobieha, a winner of her last three starts, was second, with the Le Bus Brothers Major Lanphier a head back and a head before Commandman, which was coupled with Sobieha. Afield of eight accepted for the feature of the attractive and well balanced program. The veteran Joe Rordiguez lost little time in reaching the lead with the victor, after the field was dispatched. Commandman was in closest pursuit, with Chokoloskee and Major Lanphier racing along with him. Shortly after leaving the far bend, Noahs Pride drew away to a commanding lead, and Sobieha moved up alongside of Command-man. Starboard Light and On Leave were far out of it, with the others closely bunched behind the leaders. Turning into the stretch, Sobieha came fast on the outside and, gradually wearing down the winner, came to the finish a length in his wake, with a head the best of Major Lanphier. Starboard Light had moved up during the stretch run and finished on almost even terms with the leading four and a head in the wake of Commandman. Noahs Pride, an even money choice, shouldered 111 pounds, five less than that assigned the top-weighted Starboard Light, and raced the three-quarters in 1:13. Sun Gros was withdrawn from the race shortly before post time. With a return to a fast track and the best week-day program of the meeting, the crowd was one of the largest week-day gatherings of the meeting. It was Ladies Day and they turned out in large numbers, despite the cloudy skies, which threatened rain all during the afternoon. After two days of formful sport, the well-regarded choices were in the minority and several of the winners returned dividends that nearly approached the largest of the meeting. The program was equally divided between the sprinters and those which prefer a distance greater than a mile, and several of the events brought out limit fields. i The fourth race engaged a field of eleven fillies and mares, at one mile and seventy yards. It was productive of another surprise when C. A. Bidencopes Stella F. registered her second consecutive success by winning in easy fashion over Nisia, Ever Faithful and eight others. Tommy Sauter had the victor up with tha pace of Autumnal until reaching the stretch, where she took command to establish a length and one-half advantage at the eighth post and continued to hold her margin to the end. Finding clear sailing after leaving the back stretch, Nisia closed fast to beat Ever Faithful, which bested the tiring Sydka for the minor reward. The bulk of support went to Business and Irene T., but they were away badly from the ragged start and failed to improve their positions. Mrs. A. S. Lowmans Satin Princess provided one of the biggest surprises of the meeting when she was returned an easy winner over the field of twelve unruly three-year-olds that accepted in the opening dash, at three-quarters. La Compere, favorite, raced to the place, with Irish Spree, second choice, third. It required eight minutes to get the limit field under way and Absurdity soon went into a good lead, with Chutney and La Compere furnishing the most contention. However, when Absurdity gave way midway of the stretch, La Compere was unable to hold the others safe and C. Mc-Tague sent Satin Princess on the outside of her field to lead La Compere by two lengths. La Compere held on in good style to beat Irish Spree by a half length. Satin Princess paid nearly 40 to 1 in registering her second success of the year. . A
