EQUIPOISE AND TWENTY GRAND VIEFOR LEADERSHIP GREAT RACE ASSURED Noted Pair and Other Stars Starters in Havre de Grace Handicap. Wonderful Field Named for 0,000. Added Feature of Closing Day at Havre. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., Sept. 30. The finest field of horses of three-year-olds and over to be assembled this year will contest the running of the Havre de Grace Handicap, at one mile and a furlong, here tomorrow afternoon. The 0,000 added stake, which attracted nineteen entries this morning, will feature the closing program of the Harford Associations meeting and an immense attendance is expected because of the promise of ideal autumn weather conditions. C. V. Whitneys Equipoise, generally accepted as the countrys best thoroughbred this season, will defend his laurels under the highest impost of 128 pounds. Chief among his opponents in the estimation of handicap-per Joseph McLennan will be the Greentree Stables Twenty Grand, champion of 1931. Equipoise and Twenty Grand will be renewing the rivalry they started as juveniles and which was terminated in the 1931 Preakness. A. C. Bostwicks Mate, whose path repeatedly crossed those of Equipoise and Twenty Grand two years ago and which gave the latter colt a pair of thrashings last season, also is bringing back memories of historical racing battles by his presence in the Havre de Grace field. Mate has been a disappointment this year, not having won a race, which is why his impost is 114 pounds. PLUCKY PLAY DANGEROUS. The West is offering a formidable candidate in the Northway Stables Plucky Play. McLennan holds Plucky Play at 120 pounds. Another highly rated candidate is Twenty Grands stablemate St. Brideaux. He hjfk been assigned 122 pounds. White Clover II., winner of the Suburban Handicap last spring, and Clock Tower, which captured the Maryland Handicap a year ago, are other formidable older candidates. Neither has raced in some time, but the training trials of both have been impressive. Ral Parrs Her Grace and S. W. Labrots Tred Ayon hold Marylands best chance of victory. In addition to Late Date are five other three-year-olds scheduled to start, including the Wheatley Stables Dark Secret, winner here last Saturday in the Potomac Handicap. W. R. Coes Osculator and Gallant Sir, stablemate of Plucky Play, which finished second and third, respectively, in the Potomac are among the Havre de Grace candidates. Mad Frump, another Whitney colt, and J. Fred Adams Rehoboth are the other three-year-old threats. Completing the overnight line-up is J. A. Bests Reveille Boy, Superior Stables Charleigh and Brookmeade Stables Helianthus, their respective weights being 106, 105 and 107., Not all the nineteen eligibles are expected to start, but if they do the event will have a gross value of 8,350 of which the winner will collect 3,000.
