STAR BROOK, a factor from the start, saved much ground, responded to pressure and, coming between tha leaders, was up to win in the final fifty yards. GLYNSON, taken into the lead and steadied along for five-eighths, withstood pressure, but tired near the end. BUBBLER, rated close up, lost ground and tore out slightly. SPICSON lost ground throughout and tired. CRESTA RUN, on the inside most of the way, tired. PHARAHEAD, under urging from the start, could not get up and tired in the stretch. BRIGHT CHESTNUT showed good speed and held on stubbornly, just failing to last. BIOTA saved much ground and closed gamely on the inside. MISSIE, taken back repeatedly, met interference entering the stretch, then moved up, only to tire near the end. HIGH COMPLEXION dropped out of it early. HONEY TRACE tired. ELMIRA began slowly. ANNIE ORMONT was outrun. PIGEON HOLE, much the best, went around JEAN LAFITTE entering the stretch and won easily. SON O SWEEP, showing good speed, dropped back on the stretch turn, but came again on the outside in the stretch and, wearing down JEAN LAFITTE, withstood CUDDLE and ENGLEWOOD. The latter, allowed to remain out of it for three-quarters, closed with a rush and, under a better judged ride, might have been closer up. CUDDLE raced well. JEAN LAFITTE showed speed, but quit badly after three-quarters. FINNIC and CURMUDGEON tired. LUCKY JACK showed speed, was rushed into a long lead and held on fairly well. JAZ AGE, never far back, lost ground on the turn, rallied mildly in the stretch, then tired. BLACK DUST, steadied along for three-quarters, could not withstand the winner, but held on fairly well and outlasted CESARE. The latter, under restraint for three-quarters, saved much ground to the stretch, where he cama to the outside and closed resolutly. ED LARK had no mishaps. PLUTARCH never threatened.
