ROMP FOR PARNELL BOUND Gelding Wins Second Straight on Muddy Latonia Track. Majority of Races at Covington Course for Cheaper Grade Horses Good Weather Prevails. LATONIA, Ky Oct. 28. Platers with a liking for muddy going again predominated as the Latonia Jockey Club offered its fifteenth program of the autumn meeting here this afternoon. The racing was presented under sunny skies and, with mild weather prevailing, the attendance held up remarkably well. Two purse events for maiden juvenile fillies excepted, all of the races were for the lower grade selling platers and, while a majority of the "contests failed to develop driving finishes, the racing was interesting with, betting judgment well sustained. In the fourth race, for which seven older platers answered the bugle, the consistent Parnell Bound splashed to a very decisive victory under the R. L. Stivers colors. Very much at home on the muddy, but firm bottomed track, Parnell Bound made a show of such as Making Bubbles, Smear, Uncle Matt, Hamilton and others, and it was his race from the outset. Beginning fast, he was in command before a sixteenth had been covered and, moving along with surprising speed for the entire three-quarters, got home seven lengths before Making Bubbles. This latter three-year-old was closest to the winner from the end of the first three-sixteenths and defeated Smear, which had the call in the betting, by two and one-half lengths for second. On the far turn, Smear was forced wide by Uncle Matt and, when saving ground in the last five-sixteenths, could not improve his position. George South, apprentice, rode the winner and it was the geldings second success in successive starts here. Jack Howard saddled the winners of the two races given over to maiden two-year-old fillies and in each instance his charge was favorite. In the fifth, or second of the two, Howard scored with the Coldstream Studs Babiola. She won easily, but in the very non-impressive time of 1:18 for the three- quarters and like the previous Howard ner, was ridden by Charles Corbett. Kievette . was second and Mudraker third, back of : Babiola. Continued on twenty-first page. ROMP FOR PARNELL BOUND Continued from first page. Form players opened the day in winning stride when Chatwink, racing for C. C. Van Meter and ridden by C." Landolt, accounted for the opening race in which ten of the cheaper juveniles tried conclusions at the three-quarters distance. The winner had little to spare, as it was only after five furlongs had been covered that he headed Through Omond for the lead, and after getting to the front tired but vas good enough to win by a neck. Through Omond, which led by four lengths at the stretch turn, staggered under the wire a length and one-half before Meany, which in turn led Next Call by a half-length. Jack Howard put over another strongly backed winner -when Ebony Lady decisively defeated Flag Wave, Playing "On and six other maiden two-year-old fillies in the second race. The winner led throughout the three-quarters, and at the end had a margin of three lengths over Flag Wave. In the final run to the wire, the latter was far too much for Playing On, which weakened after holding second place for more than five furlongs. Shortly after the break, Playing On stumbled, and it cost her some ground, but hardly second money, as Flag Wave defeated her by three lengths. Aside from the early prominence of Durb, the others exhibited nothing worthy of note. Marse Chan, which has proved a useful performer for T. P. Hayes, won dver a large band of the cheaper" juveniles in the third race. He was well backed and his victory was popular. Potential, an outsider, garnered second honors, while Little Connelly, slight favorite over the winner, took down third award. After the first quarter, during which Potential -was the leader, the winner showed the way, with Potential next and Little Connelly in third position. The entire final quarter found them well parted, and the winner, ridden by H. Bagur, drove home two and one-half lengths before the runner-up. Dixie Lad was seen in his second winning effort in successive engagements when he outstayed Dr. Parrish, Barashkova, Blast and five others at the mile, and one-sixteenth distance in the sixth. Blast, Depression, Barashkova and Dr. Parrish found greater backing than the winner, but be bowled them over with ridiculous ease, winning under restraint and by six lengths. Dr. Parrish outstayed Barashkova by a length and one-half. The latter two were the leaders for much of the race, but gave the winner, which charged from behind the pace in the closing three-eighths, little trouble. After beginning slowiy, Blast was unable to offer a serious bid, missing third by two lengths.
