EQUIPOISE IN HANDICAP Whitney Star Opposing Crack Field in 5,000 Headlines Washington and Spalding Lowe Jenkins Handicaps Features at Laurel Twenty in Juvenile Race. LAUREL, Md., Oct 28. With the 5,000 added Washington Handicap and the ,000 added Spalding Lowe Jenkins Handicap, for juveniles, the long meeting of the Maryland State Fair Association will be brought to a conclusion with the sport of tomorrow. The program is one of merit and in both of the big features, representative candidates .have been named through the entry box, assuring notable renewals of both. In the Washington, which is a test of a mile and a quarter, much of the interest will come in the promised meeting of George D. Wideners Jack High and C. V. Whitneys Equipoise. But, there are others among the thirteen that are named, well calculated, under the weights, to keep both exceedingly busy. Jack High has been brought back to his best form as has been evidenced by two recent races. He was winner of the Laurel Stakes in record time and he came back in an overnight handicap to demonstrate that he is well able to carry on for a mile and a quarter. Equipoise has sliown brilliant trials for , the race and need only race to these trials to be a worthy contender against the best, , even though he will have to take up a burden of 129 pounds against the 120 as-I signed Jack High. Then there is A. C. Bost-wicks Mate, which ran the best race he has Shown all season when he was a close second to Jack High in his mostrecent effort. This fellow is in exceedingly well with only 112 pounds to carry. PLUCKY PLAY DANGEROUS. Norman Churchs Plucky Play, conqueror of Equipoise this year, and Sun Beau last year at the Hawthorne course in Chicago, is another that must be seriously considered. This one has been going along brilliantly and is well equipped to carry the 121 pounds which he is handicapped. St. Brideaux, the son of St. Germans, will be the hope of the Greentree Stable and he will be better suited at the mile and a quarter than he was in his mile and a furlong test. Andy Schut-tingers Pilate is another that has impressed in his recent races and there is Sylvester W. Labrots Tred Avon, possibly the best of her sex in training. Dr. J. Fred Adams Rehoboth. is a light weight of decided class and Joseph E. Wideners Pari-Mutuel, under the feather of 98 pounds, should race well over the distance. Altogether the field for the Washington is up to its best traditions. Should all thirteen go to the post as is expected, the prize will have a gross value of 9,075. For the Spalding Lowe Jenkins, twenty are named to go to the post. Should all of these apDear under silks, the gross value will be ,775. TOO LARGE A FIELD. But is is hoped there will be withdrawals, for with twenty racing it would be inevitable that there would be a deal of crowding, with the start so close to the "first turn and it would be almost impossible to have a truly run race. Of the acceptances Willis Sharpe Kilmer s Sun Archer is at the top with 120 pounds as his impost and in his present, form he is surely entitled to the top weight. Mr. Kilmer also has Sun Captor named to run and both of hia entrants enjoy excellent post positions. The other stable with two starters is the Greentree, but they were less fortunate in the draw as both Easy Day and Welcome Gift are well to the outside. Another that was unfortunate in the draw was Mrs. John H. Whitneys Crowning Glory, winner of the Hyde Park Stakes and a recent winner at the meeting. This fellow had position number nineteen in the twenty horse field and it will be a big handicap should they all go to the post. H. C. Phipps is-represented by Balios, a better colt than his recent race would indicate, and he has the inside position. Pom-ponius is far out in the field, as is Wave On, another that has been racing well, while Joseph E. Wideners Golden Way is another tax out from the inner rail.
