Then Hanford called on Trace Call and the three-year-old came again with rare courage until at the line he was only beaten a neck. S. W. Menaguales Race Street, a two-year-old that had a thorough seasoning in Florida during the winter season, was winner of the opening four and a half furlongs dash. At the end he was doing his best to beat John J. Robinsons Dessner and C. V. Whitneys Hooligan saved third from Doeskin, one that raced for Archibald Barklie. After some delay at the post, +he big field left the stalls in excellent alignment and Robertson lost no time in hustling Hooligan into command. Impromtu was going stride for stride, with the Whitey colt and they were a length before Doeskin, while Dessner was showing the way to Race Street. Hooligan and Impromtu held the lead to the stretch and there was little to choose between the pair a furlong from the finish. Then Dessner and Race Street both came with a rush on the outside and Impromtu waj caught in close quarters to be pinched out of the running. Hooligan wa tiring from his early effort and at the Fne Race Street had beaten Dessner half a length. The Robinson gelding was a length before Hooligan. L. Haymakers Bally Bay, coming back with another good race, was a comparatively easy winner of the second. Contribute raced to second place and Mrs. Ray Pollards Uluniu beat Bright Bird for third. No time was lost at the stalls and the field went away in excellent alignment. Dabson had Baily Bay in full stride and in a dozen strides he was showing the way, never to be headed. Bright Bird chased after him with Suspicious and Uluniu following closely and Contribute was farther back but showing the way to Fiddler. Before the stretch was reached Bally Bay had increased his lead to two lengths and Bright Bird was doing his best to hold second place. Suspicious was beginning to drop back while both Contribute and Uluniu were moving up steadily on the outside. Chain showed just a flash, but he soon dropped back again and Fiddler was caught in close quarters with small chance to extend himself freely. But there was nothing irthe field to threaten Bally Bay as he turned into the stretch still well clear of his opponents. A furlong out, he had three lengths to spare and his winning margin was two lengths. Contribute reached second place in the final furlong to outfinish the others and Uluniu followed him past the line a length and a half away. The others were rather badly strung out and Bright Bird was beaten a length for third after his early speed.
