! CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES 1 R. James Speers, of Winnipeg, and head of the Prairies States Racing and Breeders Association, was an arrival and may remain over a few days racing this week. He reports much interest in the coming race season in western Canada. The Three Ds Stock Farms Texas Knight slightly injured himself in a run-Qfeoi: at the Downs Thursday. He broke loose while schooling in the paddock and after clearing several fences, indulged in a wild romp in the infield before he was captured. The stables trained by G. C. Hughes, E. W. Steiger and E. F. Shields came from Lexington. The former has Black Babble, Lucky Prince, Red Basil, Going Places and Tommie Basil, while Steiger registered Isle D Amour and Arrow. Shields brought Lady Shields, Golden X. and Flying Bill. The Kentucky Derby over, Col. Matt J. Winn, head of the American Turf Association and executive director of Churchill Downs, left Sunday for Chicago, where he will direct preparations for the coming Washington Park and Lincoln Fields spring meetings. Thomas Young, track superintendent at both Chicago courses and also here, left Saturday night for Homewood. Silent Shot, the John E. Hughes eligible, which did not accept in the Kentucky Derby, was shipped back to Maryland Sunday. From Pimlico the Hughes horses, in charge of F. Garrett, may be shipped West for the Washington Park meeting. Silent Shot, a super mud runner, is eligible for the American Derby. A. A. Baronis Bamboula, candidate for the Kentucky Oaks, to be run on the closing day of the meeting, breezed seven-eighths in 1:32% on a fast track here Sunday. Four horses in the care of Emerson Davis arrived here from Lexington late Sunday afternoon.
