threeyearolds and over was the feature attraction and while it engaged a small band it brought about one of the most thrilling contests of the day when H C McConnells Dogmata and Stuyvesant Peabodys Miss Melody came to the end closely aligned with a head separating the pair Five lengths away was the Superior Stables Supreme Sweet in third place lead ¬ ing home Wise Eddie and Foxy Quiller which completed the field of five fiveWise Wise Eddie was the favorite in this but after cutting up at the post for four min ¬ utes it took much of his stamina and when the start came he immediately dropped out of contention and remained far back throughout the race raceThe The winner raced in close attendance of the leaders to well around the turn where he was forced back sharply when Supreme Sweet forced Foxy Quiller into close quar ¬ ters and this almost eliminated Dogmata but he recovered from the interference quickly and gained steadily while Foxy Quiller and Supreme Sweet staged a bitter duel with Miss Melody flanked on the flying leaders Foxy Quiller was the first to give way and then Supreme Sweet submitted to Miss Melody In the meantime apprentice Manifold was working vigorously on Dog ¬ mata and stride by stride she wore down Miss Melody and overhauled her near the end endThe The Piano fashioned for threeyearolds and a test of threequarters which was served as secondary to the to race to expectations and the manr ner in which Eddie Arcard handled the Cai tarinich representative also brought some comment The winner displayed the most speed during the early racing in which he sped along in front under steadying restraint He was not menaced until the final sixteenth where Irish Image came up with a bold challenge and continuing gamely under punishment the latter gained so Wirt G Bowman offered strong contention and just missed overhauling the Tarn geld ¬ ing which seems to be in rare form at present While Wirt G Bowman failed to wear down the winner he had a safe margin over Oaten for second place
