Sympathy a gelded chestnut son of Tryster Sympatica which races for the Fair Fields Stable of Mrs Willis Sharpe Kilmer emerged from the sixth running of the Hyde Park Stakes at Arlington Park this afternoon as one of the major contenders for the twoyearold championship of 1934 Backed down to favoritism by a crowd of 10000 on the strength of a record that before today included four victories two of them in Detroit stakes Try Sympathy left no doubt of the result after jockey Mattioll slipped him through an opening on the in ¬ side early in the stretch The winner moved up quickly from third place into the lead drew out at once without particular urging and was running easily three lengths in front at the finish finishMrs Mrs P A B Wideners Hasty Glance was second w4th the Rookwood Farms pace making Albuquerque third a half length back and Mrs Roy Carruthers Stay a half length farther back for fourth fourthThe The victory was worth 5910 to the win ¬ ner and Try Sympathy raced the five race was truly run although Phildia was in tight quarters on the far turn and was shuffled back from a forward position and Pre ¬ eminent was away so slowly as to have little chance chanceTry Try Sympathy broke well from an outside position and then dropped back slightly as Albuquerque moved to the front and Hasty Glance advanced to second place As the field spread going to the first turn Try Sympathy moved to the inside and saved ground in rounding the turn Albuquerque made a brisk pace to the stretch turn under urging from Hasty Glance with the quarter in 23 and the half in 46 but offered little resistance when Try Sympathy decided to take the lead in the final quarter Hasty Glance held on well Stay was always fairly close and World Series made up much ground from a slow start outside in the early stretch to get up late Watch Him followed Big Beaus early pace closely passed him on the out ¬ side on the stretch turn but could not stand off the winner winnerHadagal Hadagal the bay colt that failed to train for the early threeyearold stakes as owner Warren Wright of the Calumet Farm had hoped indicated that he may yet make trouble in that age division when he made a sparkling 1934 debut by winning the Glen coe Handicap at six furlongs which was the secondary feature Just getting up un ¬ der an excellent ride by Eddie Arcaro Had ¬ agal had a nose margin over the the first asking in the silks of his new owners this afternoon when he won the first race at seven furlongs by two lengths He beat Albert Sabaths I Say with Ondott closing strongly to be two lengths farther back for third thirdTrahison Trahison had been made an even money favorite and he kept close behind the early pace set by Hour Zev and I Say When Hour Zev dropped back going into the stretch turn jockey Arcaro sent Trahison up on the outside headed I Say threesixteenths out and was not menaced from there to the finish The race was run in a drizzle in 125 over the fast track trackHal Hal Price Headleys gelded Fort Springs ran so fast he surrpised both his owner and himself in equalling the track record of 58 to win the Bellwood Purse over five furlongs which engaged ten good twoyear olds Just getting up in the final strides after having stood a hard drive on the out ¬ side from the head of the stretch Fort Springs beat E D Shaffers Tophorn with the favored Countess Bina carrying others dropped back and was then lucky to get through on the inside in the early stretch In the last furlong Steffen on Fort Springs and Meade on Tophorn staged a bitter duel with Fort Springs get ¬
